Printer Spool

Hi, I have a windows 8.1 laptop. my printer malfunctioned, and I need to retrieve the file in the Print Spool. I found a tool splviewer which can do that. I worked on Windows 7 bu not on windows 8.1. I get an error "No PCL and Postscript File"... Any help to retrieve the content from spl files?

http://www.lvbprint.de/html/splviewer1.html is the software I downloaded. It worked on Win 7.

Thanks

Check SystemRoot%\SYSTEM32\SPOOL\PRINTERS If there are any files, if not your file is already processed and deleted. Perhaps a restore file software can help you then.

I can see that file here. I have copied that to my local drive. How do I open / view this file? I tried SplViewer thing and it gives me error "No PCL and Postscript File".

    Thanks.

could be that the file is not complete, that the printing actually stopped before everything was spooled to disk.

it might work if you copy the file to your printer from a command prompt.

    quick steps.
share the printer on your computer.
    open a command prompt
    copy to \computername\sharename

another option that you could try is to use Microsofts LPR.EXE tool.
You have to install LPR Port Monitor to get access to this tool: https://support.microsoft.com/en-us/kb/2406880
