What makes a box "low end"

  • My box is lowend when the power goes out.

  • First, everything has been multiplied by one million in 35 years. RAM, storage space, storage speed, cpu speed, etc. You can't define absolute values for these to define "lowend" because they will obsolete the day after. You can only define relative values.
Today lowend servers come with 32GB of RAM for $65-85. 10% of this is definitively the low end (and additionally it sets the price at $7). Conclusion: a VPS with 3 or 4GB of RAM is lowend. Or more precisely, the amount of RAM doesn't matter. And setting a max price is not a bad thing because the only thing that goes down is the dollar.
