MXroute - Set it up as a backup MX

Hey MXroute users!

Sure, we all love @jarland s MXroute and he does pretty well in providing us with a good mail service at a budget price.
But there is a question that popped up recently:
Is there a way to configure it as a backup MX for a domain?

Was searching Google for some hints in doing so with cPanel, but only found some addons that would have to be installed and nothing really usable.
Also tried playing around with addon domains and the MX settings in the panel, but had no success.
So, is there anyone that knows if this can be achieved? It would be such a great feature!

Regards, Bochi

Sure, this can be configured in the MX Entry section in cpanel.

Yesss, I think I failed then somehow.
It looked to me like a standard edit form for MX records, will have another try! :)

Maybe i was not patient enough, this time it worked like a charm!
    Another +1 for your service.

Just in case there is someone who wants to achieve the same:

    • Go to cPanel > Addon Domains.
    • Enter your domain name that MXroute should act as a backup MX for.
    • Go to cPanel > MX Entry.
    • Select your newly added domain from above.
    • Change the "Email Routing" setting to "Backup Mail Exchanger".
    • Set the MXroute servers to a lower priority and add you actual MX record.
    • Don't forget to set your DNS entry with your provider accordingly.
    • Do a quick test with telnet on the backup MX and see the mail arrive almost instantly on your main provider.

It might rely on the records listed on the local DNS side too. I think @cassa has done this, if memory serves, and might be able to shed some light on it. It isn't a feature I specifically advertise, but it should work.

Basically, in MX Entry make sure you have your MX records configured in the order/priority you want, and select Backup Mail Exchanger and click Change. The records are at the bottom of that page.

Yes, I've done this. Seems like @Bochi found it out himself and he did it exactly the way I did :)

    Yep, and it works.
Don't know why I gave up this early with this at first place...somehow was not familiar with that cPanel stuff.

    @jarland as a side note:
You might want to place your logo in the assets folder. ;)

Doh. I don't understand why WHMCS doesn't take the logo that you give it and use it everywhere that it needs a logo :(

How did you test with telnet? Did you create the accounts on the backup server? it ask for AUTH for me.

Nevermind I need to do it on the mailserver itself.
