apt-get install program
replace program with what you want to install on your VPS
Welcome! We would be happy to offer any advice to lead you in the right direction. Can you tell us more about what your desired end result is? With that, we can offer advice on how you can get there
debian
thx
I like turtles.
The preciser your question, the best we can help.
ubuntu
CentOS, now you again.
My advice would be to familiarize yourself with Debian on a local computer.
Experimenting/Learning the basics live on the net is not advised.
Your system would be a prime candidate for someone hacking your VPS and causing havoc.
thx
Digital Ocean (Hi @jarland) have a nice set of tutorials for the fresh VPS owner, I am sure that there something for you there:

This guy is going places.
Well if I only knew where. He hasn't really revealed his problem. Is he just asking how to log in, or is he asking for a 50 page Debian manual. If the latter, I recommend the very excellent Debian Administrator's Handbook.
Very many of us here use Debian on a VPS so if he has specific questions he would no doubt get quick and practical answers, but he hasn't asked.

Hey @fatherdougalmaguire,
If you're just starting with VPSes, I would recommend using Ubuntu, and also, use DigitalOcean's guides, they're the best. Do reply or PM me on what you need installed and I'll get back to you
Debian seems abit more complex and harder to setup in my experience, so I'm keeping all my servers (even production) on Ubuntu 14.04.4 LTS for now.
debian server vps
looks like the guy is building AI program to simulate human behaviour based on different responses humans give to the same inquiry

How can use ReactOS on server? 50000 page views a day. Need WordPress.
What do you mean by that? A VPS is a server and you wanted Debian. So?
Do you actually have a VPS? With who? If so, then you will have an OS there already. If it's not Debian and you want to change that, then go to the control panel. Your provider will have given you a URL to where you log into that. At that point you can ask us things like how to log in, how to make a web page, how to secure the server so it doesn't get hacked, and things like that.
Without knowing where you stand now, there is no help that anybody can give you. Sorry.
debian.
Thx.
