+1 been using the osx version (royal tsx) for a little more than 2 years, it's excellent
Having both RoyalTS and RoyalTSX I was somewhat disappointed by RoyalTSX in comparison to RoyalTS I find myself more often than not on my mac just using the terminal/ssh command.
RoyalTS however I use quite a bit, still use putty though If I just want to quickly SSH to something.
Wow, thank you. You just converted me from PuTTY...
Same for me - when I had to use a Windows machine at work, Cygwin was always the first thing to get installed. It's never quite the same but it's close enough to enable you to be productive and not constantly feel like you're having to re-learn stuff.
When I was able to move to a workplace that allowed me to install a Linux desktop, I felt a lot more at home!
When on a Windows machine the only thing I ever leave putty for is a full blown linux VM. Until now, this looks interesting, going to try it. Thanks for sharing!
Firessh for firefox , xshell5 , intellij SSH feature - all work fine
It's functional and convenient with a decent interface and simply put, it just works. I always used putty in the windows environment but was killing time at work one day and went looking for alternatives. Found bitvise and have used it since.
try bitvise ssh client
I switched from PuTTY to XShell5, and i must say it's alot better than PuTTY.
I use Xshell. It's good.
I've always liked PuTTY on Windows, guess I need to try a few on this list!
Must have got it at an offer, I don't remember paying that much.
For that amount, it isn't worth it..
EDIT: I remember now, they had a $20 offer for Students, it says US only but if you e-mail them they will allow other countries. That is if you're comfortable giving proof. The retail prices are terrible, though.
I have recently switched to MobaXTerm and highly recommend it
MobaXterm is really good, switched from SmarTTY and before that putty.
EDIT: Xshell5 seems a lot better than mobaxterm, just switched to it because of this thread. I switched because mobaxterm is slow and crashes on heavy use and I don't really like the limitations in the free version.
I am happy with PuTTYTray.
anyone who has tried both Xshell5 and mobaxterm?
Which one for you is better?
SuperPuTTY: https://github.com/jimradford/superputty/wiki/Documentation
Xshell5 is fine .
Kitty -- a superized port of Putty... works like a charm for me. Lean/mean/does the job well
if you look one post above you I just made a post about it.
I'm torn between XShell and Royal TS right now
... those two are the leader IMHO so far.
Guys no one likes Cygwin
I do. And it works just like a terminal on Linux. It's absolutely fantastic, free, open source, and customizable.
I have a Mac. I use terminal commands for SSH, SFTP, etc.
Based totally on inertia over the years, I have been recommending PuTTY to my friends and customers who run Windows. Seeing this thread, I realize that there may be better products today.
Some products, such as XShell, are free for school or home use, but cost money for commercial customers. I would like to find the best tool that is still free for commercial use, because my customers' needs for SSH are very limited and do not justify any expense to buy a product. Forgive me for hijacking the thread a little, but I am looking for answers to these questions:
Thanks for the comment just freaked out that I'm being nostalgic about cygwin.
I use SecureCRT. Works great for what I need it to do.
I am also a putty user.
