Looking for VPS to use for Plex (1-3 users)
Hello!
I am looking for a VPS or perhaps a dedicated server to use for Plex. In my current VPS I experience a lot of CPU load when transcoding videos, which again and quite often breaks the rules of fair usage.
In other words, I am looking for a VPS provider being positive to Plex, and I would love to pay annually. Locations, anywhere in Europe, but the network connection should be fast and reliable.
Dedicated server is also an option if the price is right.

budget and storage requirement would be helpful...
you need a E3 or i5/i7 (Or the Pentium Dual core G3258) for high speed/high quality.
DO not i repeat DO NOT run it on a E5 as it lacks the power single threaded
look for benchmarks of 3200+ Single threaded (geekbench)
Hey Vugg, we have a handful of customers whom currently use Plex on our platform and I have not come across any problems so far, so running Plex with us would be no problem at all.

I have crappy atom for plex server. if you turn off transcoding it works well.

Sorry for not including budget and storage. It would be sweet with 500gb or more, but I am not sure. This could perhaps be adjusted after a while. Budget is whatever it takes to have a nice, stable Plex server. But of course, as cheap as possible! :-D

As long as you keep the playback quality as "Original" you're good.
No, there are other factors too. If you wanna play it on an unsupported device, you need transcoding. You might also need to transcode the whole video if you include (unsupported) subtitles.
As we are more than one user on the Plex server the combination between devices, subtitles, formats etc will vary. Sometimes direct play will do, but sometimes transcoding in necessary.

@TarZZ92 I see. But as far as I can see does ZXPlay indeed use E5s on their dedicated Plex servers. Am I missing something here?

ZXPlay is for you.
plex will use multiple cores for transcoding as long as you have access to enough cores it should be ok.
