Please suggest me good software for private picture hosting (and other file too if possible)

I'd like to setup a space to share with some friends pictures (in folders) and other files too if possible. Is there any good software you'd recommend that would allow people to submit pictures or other files easily, create/delete folders and browse it (creating thumbnails and the like)?
Would be great if it was possible to comment but not needed.
The idea would be able to create a small web space that I could share with non techie friends, and that would allow us to share files (mostly pictures) in a easy way
I started my quest and didn't find anything that fit my needs, some help would be appreciated.
