VPS Sponsors?

  • It works some times. I have a couple of clients who trade a space for hosting. One of my clients is a 30+year British Army Command Sargent or something like that and I have a spot on his site and it easily pays out about 4-5 times what I would charge for hosting. Granted he's doing quasi military and weapons and survival training for end of the world and the space I have is an affiliate code for some weekend training place so it matches fairly well....

Then one party made a mistake I guess ;)

Yes, it's got to match up. Gotta love those leasticoulddo adverts I saw from projectwonderful.com a few months back on one of my clients church sites. You know the one. Rayne snuggling up with Chewie in bed. That went over well.

  • Viagra. You can @#$% concrete.

  • I started reading this topic thinking "I may just buy a VPS and sponsor this kid if it's for a valid reason" by the end of it the reason didn't matter, his attitude absolutely shot any desire to help him to pieces.

Thank you for your posts folks.

    @Joel

    I'm not a kid.

    @ All

If you guys knew more about my projects you'd surelly stop trolling.
I've probably helped more non-proffit organizations than you ever did or will.
These forums are losing its quality due to your ridiculous posts.

    Troll somewhere else.

    eNetSouth doesn't count.

    Nice one :D

Should be interesting to see what @drmike has to say about this.

On a similar note, you might want to be careful about what kind of personal hero claims you make. Aside from the utter arrogance of "I help more than you do", it makes a pretty bad impression with other genuine community helpers, such as volunteer firemen (like myself).

OMG. I do that too XD. But I obviously aren't allowed to do all the big stuff because of my age, it's fun! I gotta love the Duke Of Edinbrugh awards :)

  • @MrGeneral -- with sponsorships, it is quite hard to pitch to the potential sponsors when they have no idea what it is. If it is really a good cause and having a potential to make a different (like what you have claimed), I am sure there will be a long queue of sponsor-wannabes trying to get in early and grab a cheap advertising spot.

But still, people need to know what it is. How you are going to execute it, etc.

Personally I don't really like "sponsorship" relationships, and like what @ztec said at the end you really want to be in full control of selling ads. I am sort of person who feel obligated to return favour when I receive some, which makes me particularly vulnerable in this kind of sponsorship relationships. Take LowEndBox for example, QuickWeb is great and easy to deal with -- which is fine with me. I don't want to talk about the other sponsor here...

Anyway. If you can't find a sponsor -- email me. You know what my email addy is and I'll see what I can do for you.

Agreed. Same with people serving their country. They put their lives on the line, and you want to brag about how much you help people?

Honestly, if you can't afford as a group to purchase a $3-4/mo VPS, then honestly you need to rethink your priorities. I don't care if it's for charity, if you and a group of friends can't manage to buy a VPS, but can manage to party, something's wrong here.

It's not like you're looking for a dedicated server here. You don't need Xen either.

  • I'm not getting in on this except to say that I got out of a lot of school my senior year as I was a volunteer EMT1 and later 2. :)

But yes I agree with @Joel up there. Hell if I found it interesting, I'd sponsor one out of the company hosting budget (I have about $500 a month in the budget that we send off for support of open source developers whose software we use.) but the attitude gave me pause and finally a big red mark on that. And seems like the poster doesn't understand that. Pity.

    Oh well....

i still don't get how someone in "marketing" is so bad at selling himself. Just dosen't add up to me. Plus a vps is so cheap why not sell the advertising space to a local company, if your only selling a logo for like 5 dollars?

Are you using my scripts? Please say yes :P

    @LowEndAdmin

    Hello,

Thank you for your post, it made me think about a sponsorship policy and I think I can deal with this in a different way. I was about to host it in a VPS (because I need marketing software to be installed and such) but this time I'm going to host it in a reseller account, let's see how it goes :-)

Also, thanks for offering me help, I really appreciate.

    Thanks all for your posts.

  • @netomx said: Are you using my scripts? Please say yes :P

Not that I'm aware of although to be honest, I don't have a clue as to who you are. :)

That $500 doesn't go out in a lump sum either. Has a few times like if we hear about medical concerns.

  • @rds100 said: Dude, shell the money and be done with it. Nowadays a decent VPS costs as much as a hamburger. Eat a couple of hamburgers less this month - it will be good for your health and you can pay for a VPS.

Although I got a sponsor from here (and another in another forum and another on my own), I can safely say it requires a card. If he lives in a 3rd world country, yes he can eat less but can't pay for it.

@ztec said: For somebody who should know about this stuff you're just terrible.

A sponsor deal is just another way of paying, you're paying with a direct service to the company who decides to sponsor you. In the end both parties should win, your story just tells me you expect stuff for free with vague promises.

On a side note: You should really pay for you own hosting, you should be in control of the advertisements you're going to place. If you can't even do that...then well... good luck.

You just explained it, thanks you ztec.

I love sponsorship relations. One latest VPS I got has a 1 GBIT connection, 50 Gb space, 500 Gb band, 512 MB RAM, 1 Gb Burst, and all node's CPU. It was because my sponsor was a friend of a master reseller host I have, and it quickly turned into a friendship. Same for the others.Yea, I think I would be emailing you, but not to request anything, except if I need something and am positive 100%.
