VPS in Russia or Ukraine

Hi Lads

I'm looking for good VPS provider in Russia or Ukraine with own AS.
Xen/VMWare/KVM preferred. Any suggestions?

Cheers

  • Does it have to be russia? I know romania (volixity/limehost.ro)

  • Its kinda expensive to get a decent VPS box hosted in RU DC, because the DCs themselves charge more for colocation than other places.
I know of firstvds.ru, used them a bit. The main problem is that they limit CPU speed. 400 Mhz they set at cheapest plan (~$6.2 for 128Mb box) is crappy.

  • Neither of these providers has their own AS, but I'll mention them anyway in case they're of interest, especially since there's not a whole lot of LEB choice in the region:

NQHost has VPSes in Russia, e.g. 128MB Xen with 100mbit unmetered for $6.95/month.

VDS6.net has FreeBSD jails in Ukraine starting at $2.95/month for a 128MB with 100GB of bandwidth.

As an aside, if you find a provider you like and want an IPv6 tunnel, netassist runs a free tunnelbroker in Ukraine.

I can only recommend that you go with a company from abroad, e.g. NQHost would be a fine choice. With the local ones you will get overpriced AND oversold service with crappy CPU limits (something like a 300MHz cap), bizzare bandwidth ratios (e.g. 1:4 in/out, or foreign/russian) rude support which barely speaks English (if at all), their whole website is in Russian or Ukrainian, and you will have to pay in Yandex.Dengi or Webmoney, no credit cards or god forbid Paypal.

I wonder what is the basis of your recommendation, other than perhaps RU and RO being close together in the alphabetical order? Do you think both countries have anything at all in common as hosting locations / connectivity? Otherwise you're like a waiter saying "does it have to be bacon? We serve good oatmeal porridge today."

  • I assume website in Russian wouldn't be a problem for @gbshouse .

We need provider with own AS since we are looking for potential new Rage4 DNS PoP in this area. We already have good PoP in Bulgaria (thanks @rds100) but since we have whole bunch of customers from Russia it would be nice to add

  • The only russian hoster i know is 2x4.ru but i'm not sure if they have an own AS.

They do have AS58001, but they are an ISP that doesn't care about abuse at all so maybe it isn't the best solution for DNS hosting.

@gbshouse In Ukraine you have ColoCall. Their lower end OVZ container it's about 15 USD/month.

  • Russia or Ukraine = VDS6

I have NQHost 128mb xen in Russia, which I'm very happy with. No downtime since i bought it (~4months ago).

    Maybe Hostkey for Russia? http://www.hostkey.com

That is true, cept for the "rude support". Support is usually very polite and fast. Yes, most russian hosting companies don't have english speaking support because 99.9% of their clients are russian.
But it's indeed a common practice in russian hosting to limit CPU very strictly on VPS.
Thats why I've moved my .ru websites hosting to one the LEB providers in eu from russian hosting. Ping and bandwidth is good enough so the visitors won't notice the difference anyways.

Yes, thats not true at all, and is a pretty lame comment tbh

  • Hostkey is very bad and highly oversold (tested 1 year ago)

    for Ukraine check:
    http://www.infiumhost.com/vds/ (cheap prices)
    http://deltahost.com/vps.html
    http://vps.ua/xen-hosting/ (not own AS)

    for Russia check:
    http://www.rusonyx.ru/vps/ (idk virtualization)
    http://www.oversun.ru/services/cloud/corporate_cloud/ (idk virtualization, cloud)
http://www.ihc.ru/#kvmvps (not own AS, use Oversun)

  • @MuZo can you recommend someone? :)

  • @bobby

I recommend DeltaHost, good network and good support. It's not cheap thought.
InfiumHost has good prices, but has bad network.

Never tried other providers in the list.

Just found this one that gives the datacenter name.
