Cpanel/WHM Reseller SSL connections.

I would like to ask, since most reseller accounts do force ssl, when I go to e.g. http://domain.com:2082 it takes me to https://domain.com:2083.

When the main server certificates gives me errors and I have to add exceptions each time I had to log on, what about the clients? is it common? most browsers always write a warning about credit card theft, etc. and that doesn't give a good impression about your service. am i wrong to not want SSL for my account or for the provider to fix their SSL certificate?

  • clients will see the same error and you can't have valid ssl for IP anyway.

Question: can it be turned of for my whole account so it just utilizes http://? just curious

  • there's a setting in WHM > Server Configuration > Tweak Settings, just disable ssl for cPanel, WHM, webmail........ but not advisable

  • It sounds like the provider in question is just using a self signed certificate (standard with cPanel) - Regardless that's going to be more secure than HTTP.

There are two Options to prevent this:

    1. Disable SSL on Service SSL.

    2. Set a WhiteLabel HostName to the Server & issue SSL for that and Set SSL Required. Let your Reseller & Customers know the WhiteLabel HostName & advise them to use that HostName. By doing this, none will know which Company is maintaining the Server + You're secured !

I've always had this with previous providers, which works out perfectly.

I've got this with most of the Providers I used / I advised them to do it & they gladly did it. So, if any provider is refusing to do this, Either he is incompetent / doesn't know how to do this or he doesn't pay a heed to his clients. I would have moved in this situation.
