3proxy install and config
I've been trying to do a 3proxy configuration, but I've given up, since it's quite complicated to do it properly. Can anyone write a script for a Deb 6 compile and configure for 3proxy? Or any other reliable SOCKS 5 proxy what supports UDP reliably? It would be nice to have such a script.
My problems are the following:
1. No package for any distro.
2. Documentation doesn't really exist in English. There is a howto page here: http://www.3proxy.ru/howtoe.asp and a security page here: http://www.3proxy.ru/securityen.asp
3. You have to write the init.rc script yourself, the make doesn't do anything. Actually make install copies the files to /usr, but it's not even listed on the website.
4. The sample config is from 2006, the stable version is from 2009, but there is a dev version what is updated recently.
What I'm looking for is just a basic config with the following mods:
- non-default port
- IP restrictions for clients
- basic authentication for user:pass
Comments
last time I try is from vds6 tutorial. But it's for FreeBSD
Why waste time and effort for that ? If you need debian, it has dante-server or polipo is even better...
I only thought because it's the only one I found what supports UDP. Polipo doesn't, Does Dante?
You can also think about complete VPN solutions (such as OpenVPN, which are far easier to deal with for the most part) and support UDP fully.
Just a tip
Yes, I've researched it and I found that OpenVPN is way much better. No worries about any information being leaked, works with all programs, etc.
Yep, give it a go. If you need help, visit #openvpn at irc.freenode.net, they have some really helpful people there

Privoxy does UDP.
From my blog:

Should help with 3proxy
Check this out, I put it together today--it pretty much installs 3proxy on to any debian box and configures an http proxy with authentication to the port you specify when installing
https://github.com/tourshi/lowendscript
(its forked from Xenocross's lowendscript, which I'm a big fan of)
Good luck
