Varnish+Nginx vs. HAProxy front end for Drupal?

I have a multisite Drupal installation, which I'm planning on upgrading to SSL plus add a reverse proxy to optimize the increasing load. Hence my question to those with hands-on experience with reverse proxies fronting for Drupal: what's better and why...

(a) Varnish+Nginx (to handle SSL queries and forward decrypted traffic to Varnish) or

(b) HAProxy?
