Seems to be Cogent network only... No peering at AMS-IX, DE-CIX or LINX (major internet exchanges)

Do they have any peering at any of their facilities? I thought it was all just Cogent and Zayo.

Yeah, I double checked. No peering anywhere. http://bgp.he.net/AS30058#_peers

  • Singlehomed Cogent - Sales confirmed they will not add more carriers as it is a Cogent facility.

Pretty much useless for Spanish traffic, Cogents peering with ONO and others sucks especially at peak times

  • Singlehomed Cogent in Spain is useless.
It might work with Jazztel or ONO (sometimes), but you'll get 80ms plus a shitty throughput between a FTTH customer of Telefonica in Madrid (>50% of the eyeballs) and Cogent. It's a pity.

I can get a better ping to most French datacenters.

Yep, even with that far route it sucks traffic wise, i've seen KB/s speeds on 100Mbit+ ONO cable at peak (evening and morning)...

I have never read about a DC without redundant power supply and without anyone watching 24/7.

Believe me, they exist, I can name a few in Spain. I dunno about the Cogent DC.

What I still don't understand is why anyone would trust them.

  • It's too cheap to spent more.

I tried to avoid saying this but damn man you know every single market/provider/history/religion and almost every aspect of whatever someone says. I really hope they are paying big money for that or that at least you can capitalize that living wikiLET you have inside .

This DC (if it is the one i think, but their other one is mainly for carrier equipment and small, SoloGigabit demarc ends there and goes into a power company fiber to Valencia) itself is actually not THAT bad, Cogent acquired it many years ago along with fiber from Madrid to Paris, BCN and Valencia in a deal to expand their network in Iberia (from France, where they bought a lot of Fiber and a few DCs years before that) - It has redundant power and ACs and seems to be a fairly secure building.

Pretty bad insult try... I have a lot of Spanish friends and keep an eye on their market, simple as that.

Very funny also that your blog promotes a service (RPI colo @ EDIS) that i basically invented out of nothing as first provider worldwide for EDIS...
