Hi,
Current providers that I know of:
OVH: EG 64 SSD: i7 (155 euro)
Giga-Hosting.biz: Server X: i7 new version, six core + HT (150 euro)
Digicube.fr: 128GB, 2x 8 core AMD opteron, seems to have horrible network (just 130 euro!)
Would love to hear other companies for simular prices
(Sorry for posting this on LowEndTalk but the people here know a lot more about hosting than the people at WebhostingTalk, and after all, webhostingtalk is not only about webhosting either :P)
PS:
I know about cheap colo, but I need a leased for a certain purpose

https://www.hetzner.de/en/hosting/produkte_rootserver/ex10 - 64GB RAM - 6TB Disk - 100 MBPS unmetered. Have used this one for a Matlab project. Blazingly fast
Strato.eu or http://www.strato-hosting.co.uk/server/dedicated/ has dedicated servers, altough @joepie91 told me their services are bad.
I can recommend manitu http://www.manitu.de/root-server/pro/vergleich/
Totally forgot about Hetzner
Thank you, I will look at all 3, and when I buy one, I will probably excessively benchmark the server and post it here :P
Yep, don't use them. Even in Germany they have a bad reputation.
They are awesome. The owner of Manitu is also blogging on hostblogger.de. The only thing is that traffic is not so cheap, but however you get 20TB with their pro series.
As this is for Minecraft hosting I can probably sell like 133% (yes, oversell)
150% selling is just too much overselling for Minecraft I guess.
hetzner looks cheap, but have setup fee (not like it matters)
I've never liked strato.
manitu is a little too expensive I guess, but VERY configurable
@SimpleNode could be an option too, they have cheap high-end servers.
It depends what you are looking at.. we can do Dual Sixcore, 144-288Gb RAM, 8xSSD or up to 16x1TB HDD... just not cheap
It's Minecraft :P
I think @SimpleNode resells Incero (Sorry if mistaken)
I would suggest going for smaller machines, E3's or E5-16**
Intel Bi Xeon E5630
48GB RAM
36x 3TB SATA
£517.00 Month
https://www.ovh.co.uk/dedicated_servers/hg_xxxl.xml
lol
Lol you wont get any ips out of Hetzner though.
Just keep in mind that Hetzner only offers up to /28 max per server as of Oct 2012.
48GB RAM
36x 3TB SATA
They have 64GB with SSD which is even cheaper...
Will probably use it for Minecraft hosting, I am about to colocate with Burst.net soon for my VPS company.
Correct, we do resell Incero.
I wouldn't mind though, and your 64GB RAM server is cheap
Vouch for SimpleNode. I know the owner myself, and he runs a premium service!
+1 for Incero.
think about it, only oversell a little, a lot of people go for 256MB or turn their server off
133% is not a little, and you seem to guess that 150% is too much.
Why ask for high-end if you're looking at providers like OVH and Hetzner?
Browse around the WHT Dedicated offerings forum, since you don't really have a location in mind it's hard to make recommendations. Most people figure out where they want their server, then look around at what providers around there offer.
I do not guess, I know a lot about hosting, probably more than you simply because I have experience and written my own software where that kind of stuff is exposed to me easily.
I compare connectivity instead of location and specs with price
It is on 64GB RAM.
Anyways, I have come to the conclusion that it doesn't really need to be "REALLY high end" to be cheap.
Thanks to all of you for the great feedback (no, that's not sarcastic)
You do know that means you are overselling by 20GB, or 80 256MB servers that are "off".
A good host doesn't oversell: false, take a look at cloud providers, massive oversell
You do know that means you are overselling by 20GB, or 80 256MB servers that are "off": I just know how much people actually use and use that to have a balance between resources being optimally being used and still having good peformance.
Cloud hosting is not like MC, and not everybody runs Java on cloud hosting
And where are you getting this data that 20GB of your RAM sold will have their servers off?
Hetzner and OVH are notorious for being ummm discount outfits.
I put them in the same group as Burst and FDC. Might be unjustified in doing so though as Hetzner's network seems better than these two others. OVH I am not so up to speed with.
Both have to a pain to be within as they attract riff raff.
Java asplodes when you oversell the RAM too much.
http://webnx.com/servers/clearance.html Killer MineCraft Srv 3.6ghz Xeon E5-1620 looks good, might be a tad over budget?
Also "Digicube.fr: 128GB, 2x 8 core AMD opteron, seems to have horrible network (just 130 euro!)" Not 130Euros, it's an extra 120 euros for 128gb ram
