@breton You can get that list with the following. The first is for the redhat's and the second for the debian's..
rpm -qa
dpkg --get-selections
The dpkg gives a nice sorted list, while the rpm does not I usually add a "| sort" to the rpm command so the list is sorted. Otherwise it's impossible to find anything.
or you can use this command: yum list installed
