looking for vps provider with large storage, doesn't have to be reliable

I'm looking for a lowend provider with ssh access to use solely for offsite backup. As such, I need:

  1. 500+ GB of storage. Best if storage could be expanded for reasonable price on existing machine
  2. RAM not an issue. 256Mb or more is sufficient, can probably even run on 128
  3. SSD or SSD-cache not required
  4. Overall reliability could be lacking, e.g.: some outages are fine.
  5. No strong requirement to guarantee against crashes (e.g.: RAID6 and stuff like that). e.g: losing all data because of hardware problem is acceptable, as long as these crashes are not regular occasion.
  6. $50/year or less, because if it's more, I might as well just get backblaze

So far, the only provider I found is rootnerds, but they only offer 400GB

  • Vultr, BuyVM, Hosthatch, XenStorage

They all offer storage plans off the top of my head Vultr and BuyVM are cheapest I think

  • This maybe a little more expensive than what you are looking for, but you can ship some multi-TB disk and use that:

Interesting stuff there, didn't realize anyone did stuff like this

    Thanked by 1MarkTurner
  • @MarkTuner: this sounds good but the bandwidth is a bit tight..how much for additional?

    Thanked by 1MarkTurner
  • @catalystium - We tried it in March with some beta testers, its worked well for them. So finally it got commercialised. Some people ship presetup disks and have the VM booted off them; others use it for pre-seeded backups.

    Thanked by 1catalystium
  • @andrewn - thats true, there are some other packages with more BW: 2, 5 10TB. I think it adds about $5/TB

  • @markturner that's pretty cool

    Thanked by 1MarkTurner
  • @MarkTuner: and 2 slots would double the price?

  • @andrewn - Yes, just aggregate them up for more disk slots, more memory, more CPU. I have personally used this with a couple of disks using software RAID1 inside my VM.

What is the correct BW amount? From your comments here I assume 1TB, but it says 4TB on the header, and 1TB in the footer table.

    Also what kind of cores?

EDIT: Do IPs get doubled as well?

  • @traffic - its 1TB, if you add multiple 'slots' together then then its a pure aggregate, so two slots becomes 2 physical slots, 2 IPs, 2 x 1TB transit, 2 x dedicated cores, 2 x 1GB dedicated RAM.

The cores are all L5520. This is just a hybrid of Delimiter's dedicated core VPS product, so its completely dedicated resources per VPS. No funny business with storage, RAM or cores.

@hostmybytes had a 500gb deal going for $7/m and you can combine 2 for 1 tb if you ask them

  • hmm nobody offers 1TB for $5 per month?

  • cociucociu Member

    @andrewn i thinck is too much 5$ /1 tb

    time4vps.eu

    1TB = €3.99 p/m or €39.90 p/y

  • time4vps deal looks good.

    1. How much do you charge to have the disk/s returned?
    2. Any remote hands fees?
    3. Do you offer shipping (returning the disks) or do you require a shipping label?
  • @telephone - The cost to install disk is free, the cost to remove it, package it for return is $20. There are no additional costs.

If the disk is to be returned nationally then Delimiter can ship it back to you using a company like Fedex or UPS. You pay the shipping costs or provide a shipping label.

If you are outside of the US, then you either can complete your own customs declarations and shipping documents or Delimiter will charge $50 for the administrative cost of handling the paperwork and the cost of the shipment. You can again provide your own shipping label. Obviously its really not worth shipping disks internationally.

  • We can offer you this. I have messaged you with more details.

Got a link to the dedicated core vps products?

Is it just in Atlanta for now? Virtualisation type is what?

  • @sc754 - Delimiter usually starts products in Atlanta and then moves them out from there. Its KVM based.

Looks good, I take it there's a console so I can do manual iso installs?

  • @sc754 - there is a standard VNC-style console. You can install from the images/ISO's that Delimiter provides.

  • Someone was asking me for a Serverbear on the dedicated core VPS, I am sorry I can't find your PM.

    Its here http://serverbear.com/benchmark/2015/06/13/C8ndNPyqjBo6yKHy

  • I think Delimiter could do with a website update @markturner. it doesn't seem to work properly in chrome.

The website's awful! The landing pages seem better/more modern. Hopefully this summer they'll do something about the main site.
