Backup Server
Hello LET community,
I can't seem to find what specs I should look for in a backup server. I see some nice Kimsufi/SYS/Online.net servers but I'm not sure how powerful the CPU should be and how much RAM I should be looking at.
Can any experienced members lend a hand here?
Thanks,
Sam

@cociu
I've already got some servers in mind. I just don't know what specs are 'recommended' for a backup server
depends on many factors.
@desperand
No encryption, and I'm guessing max 5GB every few days/weeks or so
There are very cheap backup place with duply (duplicity) & runabove.
https://www.runabove.com/storage/object-storage.xml
How to use duply: (mini guide) http://board.prometeus.net/viewtopic.php?f=8&t=1048
~ 5GB per week * 4 = ~ 20GB per month = 20 cent's per month.
20 * 12 = 240 = 2.4$ for 240 GB
@samczsun you have my signature if OpenVz is ok for you
Your backup server would most likely only receive and store data, and not processing anything much. In that case very minimal resources are needed. You can just use sftp, or install ftp perhaps. If you need to install specific script then see requirements of the script.
