Anyone Use Online.net ?

itaaitaa Member

Tempting to get their 15.99euro server
http://www.online.net/en/dedicated-server/dedibox-xc

Maybe anyone have this exact server already and can tell how good/bad is performance for it? What worries me is the atom processor, but I have heard at some places that its quite decent but still not sure..
Also how much bandwidth can you expect to push on it ? They write that its 200mbps unmettered, but do they really allow to use that much and are you actually able to get that speeds?
Any input would be much appreciated
Thanks. Im planning to bring ~50k pageview/day wordpress site with lots of images there which is reaching my 1core/1gb ram limit in shared host I have and hopefully in next few months bring the pageviews to 200k/day

  • You can find a benchmark of the Dedibox XC here (by mustafaramadhan): http://browser.primatelabs.com/geekbench3/2208361

I have a bunch of benchmarks in comparison to the other online servers here:

In regards to bandwidth, yes you can really use 200 mbps.

  • I have atom one for almost 9 months and there is no problems with the server yet. :)

  • I have 3 of them and have never had any issues with them. Good uptime, good performance. Nothing to fault so far.

My atom box has been up since it was deployed - 2014-06-15 19:06:50.

I actually have it scheduled to reboot next week to apply a pending BIOS fix that has been around 6 months or so.

I peak the network once in a while but only do 20TB~ /m.

One of my kidechires is online 194 days, since the day I reinstalled it. In the second one is about to expire the windows trial license (online almost 6 months) and the third was online without interruption till last week that I reinstalled it because of some testings I wanted to do. And the network... brilliand!

  • @itaa,

Don't underestimate for Atom Avolon (using by Dedibox XC).

Is 201516 mobo from HP or Dell?.

The XC is a very capable server. Don't let the name fool you: the Avoton Atoms are nothing like the old Atoms. The name is virtually the only thing they have in common.

    Thanks.

I have many problems with Dell version. Bad HDD performance (something wrong with HW Raid).

If you have lots of images just offload it with this plugin that uses Imgur API

    https://wordpress.org/plugins/wp-imgur/

It keeps the original image files on your server, and replaces the image hotlinks with Imgur ones

why not just use jetpack photon ?

  • the C2750 is ok in multithreaded stuff, in single threaded stuff it's a bit slow as the individual cores aren't that quick.

I've had one of those servers before the price went down and the only thing I didn't like about it was the single disk and at the time 8GB ram was a bit limiting for what I wanted to do with it.

I actually have a C2750 in co-lo at the moment, running a few VM's and Emby, not really fast enough to transcode 1080p in realtime (well it depends on codecs) but otherwise nice machine for a low power usage.

I had a pair of avotons but they had two things I disliked: Mainly the 10 TB cap also the cpus were a bit weak for my needs.

    Their control panel is great!!!

10 TB of bandwidth? I use 30 something TB almost 40 TB and have no problem at all. I am using Dedibox SC2 btw.

  • @sirmbhe said:

Yup, 10 TB of BW. Might have been one of the apps I was running ( not hosting websites or torrenting).

  • The Dedibox XC is an absolute beast for what you're paying. The only remark I have is that it's not available with more than one drive. If it had two drives, it would make the competition insane.

Single threaded it's as fast as my mobile phone
