Cheap KVMs that allow nested virtualisation

Need some KVMs for some testing

512MB+ RAM.
20GB+ Storage.
500GB BW+
1+ CPU core(preferred if I can max it).
Dedicated IPv4 + IPv6

Under $5/mo (yearly is nicer)

What do you mean by 'max it' 24x7/365?

No no. Like use 100% for 30mins or so.

For how long you need it ?

    Months maybe.

  • I don't see why a provider would stop you doing nested stuff???

Dam sorry. I was having a little place on my KVM node (corporate one), but for only maybe 2-3 weeks.

    Sorry!

  • Vultr?

Use littlehappycloud.net and get a dedicated IP?

Cant see that being an issue, lots of people using docker on it

How much is the dedi IP?

Docker works without nested virt as usual - KVM does also but is extremely slow.

My short list (because I am interested too):

    • Atlantic.net (and I just canceled it... =/ )
    • Runabove (Apparently they do the -host flag or almost like that)
    • Digitalocean (Yep, it works and great)

    Anyone else?

Vultr and LHC. That's it so far. Pretty tragic TBH.

  • I didn't knew about Vultr. Are you sure? I can't see "vmx" in the cpuinfos that people have posted.

And I still haven't decided to get a LHC one.

  • SimplerCloud will do it too (no v6 though)

  • RunAbove certainly gives this ability along with AES

Joke...you posted asking for cheap kvms that allow virtualization...I jested that you were probably starting a low end provider...

No no. It's not summer yet. Give me a few weeks /end sarcasm

Because people run pirated Windows XP in QEMU on OpenVZ, swap like crazy and eat a CPU core.

  • We can do this for you starting from 2.99 EUR/mo for the following specs on our special node, you may also max the CPU core:

    RAM: 512MB
    Processor: 1 Core, Intel(R) Xeon(R) CPU E3-1225 V2 @ 3.20GHz
    Storage: 15GB RAID-1
    Bandwidth: 1TB/mo, Anti-DDoS enabled

    IPv4: 1, located in France
    IPv6: 1, beta

    Price: 2.99 EUR/mo
    Order: https://verelox.com/cart.php?a=add&pid=140

    or

    RAM: 768MB
    Processor: 1 Core, Intel(R) Xeon(R) CPU E3-1225 V2 @ 3.20GHz
    Storage: 20GB RAID-1
    Bandwidth: 1TB/mo, Anti-DDoS enabled

    IPv4: 1, located in France
    IPv6: 1, beta

    Price: 3.99 EUR/mo
    Order: https://verelox.com/cart.php?a=add&pid=141

Just open a support ticket after ordering or indicate that you require nested virtualization in the order notes and your server would be migrated. You may choose any plan from https://verelox.com/vps.php and request to migrate it as well.

    Here are the flags:

fpu vme de pse tsc msr pae mce cx8 apic sep mtrr pge mca cmov pat pse36 clflush mmx fxsr sse sse2 ss syscall nx rdtscp lm constant_tsc up arch_perfmon unfair_spinlock pni pclmulqdq vmx ssse3 cx16 sse4_1 sse4_2 x2apic popcnt tsc_deadline_timer aes xsave avx f16c rdrand hypervisor lahf_lm xsaveopt fsgsbase smep

As well as a quick benchmark:

    CPU model : Intel(R) Xeon(R) CPU E3-1225 V2 @ 3.20GHz
    Number of cores : 1
    CPU frequency : 3192.744 MHz
Total amount of ram : 996 MB
Total amount of swap : 766 MB
    System uptime : 14 min,
    Download speed from CacheFly: 24.5MB/s
    I/O speed : 153 MB/s

EDIT: Did not see that you were wanting to do nested KVM in KVM.
EDIT2: For openVZ in KVM I have had no issues doing so at the following providers:
MyCustomHosting, Nexmark, Vultr, UltraVPS, HostMyBytes, Crown Cloud, Hostigation, DrServer(XEN-HVM), DO, Ikoula Cloud, OneProvider Cloud.
OpenVZ did not work for me on the Onlinenet Cloud with the ARM processor.

You can do OVZ in any KVM, having vmx or not.

I even do it on Linode with xen pv

  • OP states that you need 'some' cheap KVM's to create nested environments. How many are you thinking you might need? Do you have a geographic location in mind? How many IP's (4 & 6)?

I'm happy to work with you to spin up an environment - might have to make a few compromises to meet your price (i.e. instead of booting of local RAID volumes, I can give you slower network connected storage that might be just fine). Just a few more facts. Don't want to offer something that can't/won't work for both of us.

Just a couple. Geographically diverse is better for what I require. I could be ordering ~5-15 depending on the price and quality of service.

With IPs 1 or 2 would be fine per KVM. Network storage is fine I/O is not require for what I am using. If you wish you can add me on skype (tinytunnel)

  • I use Vultr for this, they've never complained.
