Performance, 10K HDD vs RAID10

edited April 2015 in General

Which is generally faster - 10K with SW RAID10, or normal 7200 HDDs with HW RAID10

Found a few MX961's and other HW RAID cards with low prices and was going to put them in a computer for RAID10 with 4 drives.

CPU on the computer is a Q9650 Quad Core, 10K drives will likely be 500G WD VelociRaptors

Additionally, how loud are the 10/15k HDDs compared to standard 7200s?

Comments

  • HW RAID10 will always be faster. The DBi of the drives will vary on the manufacturer.
