Wasn't Oles removed from the CEO position and replaced with someone else?
yes, but that doesn't mean he can't work for OVH on some other position
Damn Oles, :P
Oh well, they need a lot of IP's to provide them for free (/24) in their standard server offers.
Thanks for the heads up @dnwk! Added to IPS.
Time to block another /16 on the internet, yes indeed.
More fun to block bad requests and watch people try while laughing at them
or you could make a forwarder for that subnet to send all emails to [email protected]
Don't forget MXroute is on OVH, making their IPs look damn good in my block
Ill make you go back home to @ryanarp when i'm done with you
Nooo...darn kids with their DDOS attacks. It's OVH or nothing filtered tunnel wasn't working well with IMAP.
Could encrypt the tunnel with something like tinc / openvpn. Or you could create the tunnel with a non-ddos protected ip and use the ddos IP as its front face
I am using their hosted exchange. Don't block me
Too late my friend. I like to keep stuff in their ranges "by invite (whitelist) only." If I have a requirement to permit specific addresses (i.e., like my own instances, etc), I will. It helps to proactively cut out a lot of unnecessary ..... activity.
But he is still working as CTO.
Why Oles is forced out?
Don't know why he's out but it could have been his decision.
I bet he wasn't, just the usual tech company bureaucracy. Perhaps as CEO he adds liability to statements made on e.g. Twitter.
back to the topic. How can they go so many IP address?
@dnwk, they attract Customers that can justify large numbers, they have a lot of invoices for HW, they have money... That's all enough to get as many addresses as you can 'justify'.
They, as before, bought a legacy /16 for ca. 500kEUR. No justification is required for this.
Justification or not - RIPE has no more IPs to hand out at all.
Really a new /16 to block.
My own DNS server got flooded several times by IPs from OVH.
You know, it's quite normal since OVH is the third biggest hosting company with big DC, in the world. But yes, they need to improve their Abuse and Security team and measures.
Sounds like pretty good justification.
Not really. It doesn't justify irresponsible wastage (aka hoarding)
He's just moved to his CTO Seat
They bought the space from another LIR member, as such they don't need to provide any justification. Just huge pile of cash!
Microsoft paid a similar price 5 years ago

It's not a new IPv4 range, they purchased from other company in Germany.
And Microsoft got the equivalent of 44 /16s this morning - it seems they bought it from Xerox.
