  • Unfortunately as per SPLA agreements providers aren't able to just lease licenses on a monthly basis outside of their network(s). Your best bet would be to purchase the license outright.

    Thanks

You could pick up a cheap Windows server license here: http://reddit.com/r/microsoftsoftwareswap :)
Never used it personally, but I've heard it's legit.

Edit: not monthly however, all out payment, but really cheap.

If you are going to go that route, just download it illegally. http://reddit.com/r/microsoftsoftwareswap is not legal either. Why pay someone for something that is in essence, stolen?

i doubt it's stolen. until you can provide proof of this i call this nonsense

  • register with a provider as a SPLA that way you can license as many vps or dedicated you need for a very low monthly price. i use

    https://www.softchoice.com

    and check here
    https://www.microsoft.com/Licensing/

The people on there say they buy in bulk and sell cheap. Of course you can never be sure, and as I said, I've never used it, but you never know. :)

  • I also have a bridge in new york for sale, any takers? Just because someone says something doesn't make it so. This is the internet :P There is no discount provided by microsoft that would allow them to sell the OS at ANY where near the price they are claiming.

Just think, $15 for any server OS. NOT LEGIT. $15 for VS ultimate? Even in some of the comments you can tell the guy has no clue if it is legit or not. He thinks they are retail keys? Come on. If you are legit you know what channel your keys are coming from, especially if you are getting 99% discount on all products.

SPLA has minimal commitment at the moment. $100USD a month, was it? After initial 6 months.

Yes. It's a smart move by MS to drive people away from using their software, or indirectly promote piracy.

SPLA is not meant for end users, what exactly is your issue?

If your volume is less than 180~ USD a month after a n day (?) trial period, yes, they do revoke your status and tell you to go with one of their resellers.

There's also a restriction where no more than 50% of that initial usage can be 'for your own use,' as our SPLA vendor tells us.

I personally think that is ok.

There are two companies, A and B. Both run by the same management with partial resource (including manpower) sharing.

A provides SaaS services to customers, and requires no more than 4~5 servers for the time being. B provides server management services to A, and only serves A. B colocates the servers in a DC that does not provide SPLA license. B then get the license from a local SPLA vendor.

And then one fine day the vendor came and asked B why the reporting amount remains stagnant.

No commitment you pay for what you use. PEr CPU not per license

No? You as a customer of a SPLA enabled vendor have no minimum requirements.

That's their problem to deal with.

    That's not true.
    SPLA enabled partner have minimums.

Ref. own experience AND Google (http://splalicensing.com/2013/10/22/new-2013-spla-agreement/)

Probably I termed it wrongly - B signed SPLA with Microsoft through one of their SPLA resellers (e.g. Insight).

Now B has to deal with the "problem".
