Converting PSD to HTML?

zhuanyizhuanyi Member
edited September 2012 in Help

I have bought a few PSD pages from one of the members in LET a while ago and after sitting there and doing nothing for several months, I have decided to start doing some work with it (or eventually give up and find someone to do it). Basically I can code HTML, knows a bit of CSS, nothing with JQuery nor Photoshop, I am kind of wondering what is the difficulty level for me to perform the task. Would, say, a weekend be enough to get it done with?

  • And if anyone has any idea of some good tutorials to start with, please feel free to post them here as well.

  • Just use one of the PSD2HTML services out there they'll do a decent job for next to nothing.

  • I would be very surprised if there wasn't a PSD slicing tutorial at http://www.good-tutorials.com/.

I like to learn everything that comes across my way, of course, if it does not cost too much time...

I read somewhere that people claim a bad conversion work will affect SEO, is that true?

  • There are people on fiverr who will slice your PSD for $5:

Are those guys reliable though? Any recommendations?

  • @zhuanyi said: Are those guys reliable though?

Generally, yes. Be sure to read reviews left by other users, and check the "orders in queue" value on the person you select. A person with a lot of orders in queue might not be a good choice (unless it's something complicated that takes a bit of time to complete).

Fiverr sellers must provide their service before the end of the "est delivery" days. If you don't get your service before the end of the specified time, you can cancel your order with the person and get your money back.

We've never had a problem that we had to escalate to Fiverr customer support, so I can't speak about that. We use Fiverr for many things, though, and have never really had a problem; most of the sellers on fiverr are intimate with what they're offering, so they know the exact questions for the points they need information on, to ensure you're happy. Most sellers are also willing to 'revise' your product if needed.

Just go for the person with the most positive reviews and you'll be fine. I've ordered graphics servers from a Fiverr person twice so far and was satisfied very much both times.

  • Sorry for digging out this old thread but I am looking for someone who can do this work now for some PSD files I have, I can definitely go fiverr but figured someone here might be more reliable/experienced, just wondering if anyone would kindly help? Many thanks!

And I still don't but I guess I won't want to know as well :)

  • @zhuanyi I'd get me a WP template from here: http://themeforest.net/category/wordpress

You will save tons of time and focus on what is really important: your service. If you want to go down this path, I can make a few recommendations as far as authors go. Some are really good, others don't update their work very frequently.

What do you think about the template I used for Bornin.Asia? That was from TF :)

  • @zhuanyi I think it's this one here: http://themeforest.net/item/liveweb-wordpress-web-hosting-template/2413431?WT.ac=search_thumb&WT.seg_1=search_thumb&WT.z_author=squidix

I like it, it's really nice and very easy on the eyes :) Just add content to it. You don't really need to get anything else, but if you're tempted to buy something, please don't buy this:
    http://themeforest.net/item/rackhost-hosting-wordpress-theme/2874302?WT.ac=search_thumb&WT.seg_1=search_thumb&WT.z_author=Serifly

To many providers are already using it, I have even seen a few that use the default logo as their own logo. Also pick a logo that is slightly unique. I like the panda bear, it's a good look. What ever you will pick, it will be your brand identity. Economic times are tough, and customers don't pay that much attention to subtle details, but somewhere in the back of their mind it still matters.

What will you call your new hosting business? Or will it just be an extension of Bornin.Asia? - cool domain name by the way.

  • If you have a mac and do any web design work, this is your best friend.

Might seem a lil' expensive, but it's completely worth it.
    Slicety slice slice.

Sorry, no money for that expensive toy... :(

  • @ElliotJ Looks like a cool app, but he's already got a pretty nice WP theme.

That's indeed what I used for Bornin.Asia :) Good, I'll use the template then.

Could never get it to work - it can't find the layers in my designers' PSDs.. Oh well.

I just do it manually in Coda, which is amazing by the way.

Also there's this which is "ok" sometimes:

  • @jhadley Coda is probably the best web developer solution out there, and it's a shame that it is available only for the Mac. Coda FTW :)

Wondering how good this "automated" one would be...
