  • OP should probably mention minimum requirements for Docker based project.

OpenVZ won't support it. (Here, I assume most idle boxen are ovz)

There seems to be some (experimental?) Docker support on a recent OpenVZ release. ( OpenVZ kernel 042stab105.4 and later)

@deadbeef said: A smarter malicious use would be to try to plant a backdoor for (much) later access. That is something that Docker use mitigates.

Interesting. Could you elaborate on this?

I'm also curious why don't VPS hosts offer Docker VM's? Are there any technical/security issues I'm not aware of?

Because barely anyone knows what "Docker" is, or uses it, even compared to the number of people knowing what GNU/Linux or SSH is.

Because such VMs will be seen as inferior to those where you get root access, and will need to be much cheaper, but what's the grounds for cost reduction here if you still spend the host resources and likely an IPv4 address.

Got a few spare, shoot me a PM.

  • @rm_ said: Because such VMs will be seen as inferior to those where you get root access…

Why in the world would anyone offer Docker with no root access? FYI: Docker ~ LXC ~ OpenVZ (where ~ stands for: almost the same as).

  • I think I sent a PM to all those who wanted to help.

The presentation post will be posted in a couple hours. (I am currently writing it)

Well, to be honest I do not know exactly how much resources is required but I guess that as long as you can run nodejs you are good to go.

I've no idea, never used it, tried once, but it stinks too much of systemd.
I thought it's mostly used to deploy single isolated apps, not entire guest OSes.

  • Is openvz VPS ok? If so I have like 5 spare ones you can use if it's a cool project.

  • A vps exchange broker seems to be what's needed. Accumulate vps credits by donating your vpsii. (and redeem when you need).

Sounds socialist. (or is that just a co-op?)

Some trusted party should run that. But the problem of keeping out bad actors remains.

IP reputation changes are pretty much one way, right.

Does it run on a 64MB ram OpenVZ?

Actually both: guest Linux distro with chosen apps.

I am also interested in finding out if it does. Feedback would be appreciated.
