Cheap VPS for minecraft

Hey LowEndTalk,

I am searching for a VPS that i can use, for my minecraft server.
My current vps provider only allows 20% CPU usage from 1 cpu..

I need a VPS provider which could offer me 2.5gb (or more) RAM, and where i can max out my CPU (single core or more), if possible in europe. (Or USA with possibility to ping, and check download speeds)

Regards, Thomas

  • Vultr is solid choice for minecraft, you can store your VPS as a snapshot when you don't want to play.

Vultr is kinda expensive, but i looked at your signature and found the "OVZ 4GB Special" quite interesting, and it fits my needs. Currently i have 1 core and with no players 7% CPU usage (583mb ram)
The 4 CPU cores, how much CPU Usage (%) can i use? or are these 4 cores reserved for me to use?

Not 24/7, but it can happen that i use much CPU usage for a few hours

Scout Realtime on my server (no players atm) : http://Server.hoeky.nl

  • I always use Vultr for gameservers.

I run Source servers (Gmod) though, but Minecraft should be fine too.

    Hello,

    What is your budget ?

    Hello,

    Budget ?

Not too much >.< max $5 a month for now because im still working on it

Currently at Venetx, the VPS works great but the 20% CPU usage is the bad part..

  • Have you ever thought about using a game server provider or is this out of the question?

Also, how many slots does your server use?

Well most of the time game server providers are more expensive. I have set it at 40 slots.
But im currently still building the server, and most of the time im at school.

High CPU for extended period + 2GB of RAM for $5 is going to be tough.

Look at Vultr's $7 plan. Decent RAM + generous CPU usage.

I recommend @drserver, especially with his AbusiveCores that allows you to use the CPU 100%

  • You may look for a dedicated server for it: http://www.soyoustart.com/us/essential-servers/ (with Anti-DDoS protection) All of the resources will only be used by you. (guaranteed bandwidth: 250Mbps)

They also have installation templates of game servers.

For a cheaper one, http://www.kimsufi.com/en/ (guaranteed bandwidth: 100Mbps)

If you are willing to shell out a few bucks, http://www.ovh.com/us/dedicated-servers/enterprise/ (it has Anti-DDoS Pro protection free of charge, up to 1Gbps with 500Mbps guaranteed bandwidth).

  • Fair ol jump there, from $5 to a dedi.

If you're worried about CPU usage then Vultr / Abusive cores are going to be your best bet and saddly I can't see you getting anything even remotely reasonable to run a MC server on for that price.

In that case vultr works even better for you, snapshot the server when you finish working on it at night and spin up a new one when you get home from school. Then you're only paying what you're using on a high teir VPS.

  • Thinking about https://www.trueworldgaming.com
the 2gb plan for now. Think i will use it that one :)
