Everybody should make a note we should be more "explicit" in the future specifically for you.

Kupol said: as I simply understand that for 9euro per month you can not get an unmetered BW

Yes you can -- not gigabit, though.

Kupol said: set my relay speed to 500Mbit with 700Mbit burst

Kupol said: after a month I've pushed 10TB in both directions

10TB one direction in a month is nowhere close to 500 or 700, it's only about 30 Mbit.

    @rm_

Obviously new relay won't pull all that speed first few weeks, not to mention the shared 1Gbit network with others.

The point is that the speed at which the bw is unmetered wasn't specified by anybody nor in the ToS. I've checked for the fair usage policy and didn't find anything like that in ToS neither.
If they were so concerned with the usage they could simply notify me and I would gladly limit the traffic.

Not necessary. I can ask when in doubt. I understand that asking is a thing that terrifies some, but hey, tough luck.

You mean twitter, facebook, the internet in general, buying oil or oil based products, not going there to shoot them in the head,..

Are you implying that you support IS o.O

AutoSnipe said: So, in my opinion. I'm looking after the other customers before the one person that could wreck the whole system for everyone else.

Everyone knows that sharing an IPv4 address with others will lead to restrictions. The google captcha is freaking annoying and I myself had already banned the IPv4 range of my deepnet VPS before purchase because too much spam was coming from it.

If you want your customers to have no restrictions, at least give them a /64 IPv6, because anything less is treated as one person -> same problem.

Unless you enable the AES acceleration (and the nodes have it in the first place, and the provider exposes it to the VPSes -- both typically are a tough call), it won't even later, due to the CPU bottleneck.

Still don't get what's the point of your post. A random crappy provider you won't even name, is crappy. Okay?

And instead of paying 9 EUR for some VPS, you could have gotten the KS1 or KS2 and use not 30, but all of your 100 Mbit to your heart's content, OVH's wouldn't care or even notice.

Yes just a random post about a crappy local provider. I have both 2euro online net server and the first KS from OVH.

    I am not sure.
I think you were lucky in your relation with OVH, there are many lucky people, but I am not among them. Before going over to OVH you should ask yourself in a deep, husky voice: Am I feeling lucky today?
I do not rate high providers where you need luck, but, OVH is not the only low cost provider out there with unmetered offers which really are unmettered.
I also agree that for a few bucks you could risk OVH, IF you manage to sign in, that is. It is certainly fun and gives a sense of adventure.

Not sure what your other experiences were with OVH or what relevance they have here, but I am pretty sure they do not terminate people for bandwidth use alone.

No, but it can be related to that. People which used high traffic in the past were "terminated" for "DDoS" which was possible to be mistaken by their system (before the DDoS protection era).
And people were terminated for other irrelevant reasons, so, you may never know.

My KS1 had less bandwidth available most of the time. My special edition KS in BHS was strangely limited to 80 mbit/s per connection (from/to any location). You can still use a lot of bandwidth, just saying it does not seem to be guaranteed at all (at times I only got 30 mbit/s from my KS1).

  • Last time I asked phase-7.ro don't mind you running tor, and they offer unlimited plans at 100Mbps.

    Exit?

  • I asked about relay only, but I think the biggest issue with exit is SSH brute force attacks and http flood type things through exit... As per their terms of service:

"Hacking, which includes, for example, accessing or attempting to access, without authorization, another computer or network. Port scans, scans hidden (stealth scans), and fraudulent "phishing" are also prohibited."

    and:

    "We limitation for openvz :
    -100000 packets per second.
    -1000 simultaneous SMTP conntrack sessions
-30 simultaneous outgoing SSH conntrack sessions.
    -90000 conntrack sessions"

I had been running a relay there for a year.

The service is completely crap and has been down for many hours at the time, the connectivity is intermittent sometimes, I think either the switch or the core have serious problems dealing with the traffic.

They switched networks, they switched hardware (previously using a Core2Quad for the node), service is still shit. But well, I have used 100TB over a year.

They were providing a completely shitty service so I did just remove the limits from the relay: they still don't care or don't know how to care, you can basically do anything as long as they don't get abuse.

A relay only should not be disallowed anywhere. Who forbids it does it because their network is heavily oversold and if a few percent of the people will start using the traffic allocation it will bog down, or for ideological reasons.
None of the reasons are OK for me, so, unless I need it for something very specific, I skip providers with such poor business practice or ideologically motivated. Same as with the porn people, i never hosted that, but if they take a stand there, they do not belong in this industry, there are always religious wars out there in need of zealots, because their religion forbids sex if no kids arrive, but has nothing against killing millions of other religions.
