    @agoldenberg

    Can you please ask John, if it's recurring or not? Also tell him to setup SSL.

    That would be an insane offer if its legit. But that setup for $9? Just wow

  • KupolKupol Member

    @Multi
    They've delivered the server. I went with the basic package for $9. I'm still confused, if this price is recurring which I doubt or if, it's really $9 per month.

    Here is the benchmark. Strange thing that server has been up for 49 days. I've mailed their billing department regarding the server price. Network looks like crap.

    [root@localhost ~]# wget freevps.us/downloads/bench.sh -O - -o /dev/null|bash CPU model : Intel(R) Xeon(R) CPU 5160 @ 3.00GHz Number of cores : 4 CPU frequency : 2992.673 MHz Total amount of ram : 15951 MB Total amount of swap : 8047 MB System uptime : 49 days, 4:05, Download speed from CacheFly: 6.39MB/s Download speed from Coloat, Atlanta GA: 2.94MB/s Download speed from Softlayer, Dallas, TX: 3.03MB/s Download speed from Linode, Tokyo, JP: 650KB/s Download speed from i3d.net, Rotterdam, NL: 340KB/s Download speed from Leaseweb, Haarlem, NL: 3.41MB/s Download speed from Softlayer, Singapore: 1.18MB/s Download speed from Softlayer, Seattle, WA: 3.83MB/s Download speed from Softlayer, San Jose, CA: 4.47MB/s Download speed from Softlayer, Washington, DC: 4.64MB/s I/O speed : 204 MB/s

    Yeah network is pretty poop on mine too. Also price is not recurring. $9 is first month then $69.99 for the base config.

  • So a Dual X5160, 16GB RAM for $70/month? Delimiter has been flogging an almost identical box for $20/month for 18+ months and network is a lot better than that!

    The disk IO is decent but the download / upload speeds are pretty bad and they are single homed on Fibernetics.... ew.

  • Processors are different - @agoldenberg - X5130 2Ghz, @Kupol X5160 3Ghz.

  • agoldenbergagoldenberg Member, Host Rep

    Either way @markturner $69.99US is almost $100CAD and this config is nowhere worth the money.

    I got one as well, http://serverbear.com/benchmark/2015/03/03/gaUyQVT9eIhD9hco. The network isn't that great, but otherwise the server is fine.

  • @VikingLayer - for $70/month? We've been selling X5150's for $20/month for the past year or so. You can have 3.5 for that price.

  • $60/quarter Delimiter 5150 for comparison @MarkTurner

  • Our disk IO on those single disk systems is lower.

    Can someone who has one run dmidecode and stick it on https://paste.rocks/ or similar.

  • @MarkTurner Yeah, not amazing, but usable. And the built-in raid cards are very.. meh. The 5150 is actually better than the L5420 - which only does ~75MB/s (HW RAID 1)

  • @Mikeyur - do you mean Delimiter L5420? Is write cache enabled on the controller? You need to tweak it between read/write prioritisation.

  • If you are wanting something fast, I would not recommend Green Value Host. I have been waiting a week for my server to be provisioned and they are not replying to my Trouble Tickets about my concerns. If it's not up by tomorrow I will be calling and reporting fraud.

  • @gmathis96 - What did you order from GVH?

    Won't be keeping it the next month anyways, so for $9 it isn't bad. But yeah, I was aware of the Delimiter servers :)

  • @MarkTurner Xeon E3-1240v3 Quad Core

  • @gmathis - if it doesn't come tomorrow then PM me and I'll get you one sorted out.

  • @MarkTurner do you work with them?

  • No, he will give you an offer in Delimiter most likely.

  • @gmathis96 - No, I work for Yomura and would push this via Delimiter.

    Hmm. Seems like a setting I would need to change via ILO remote console.. which is kinda impossible since only the IE one works, not Java, and for some reason it only likes certain key presses.. which don't include any of the function keys or up/down arrows.

    ILO is such a PoS. Supermicro4Lyfe!

  • @MikeYur - ILO is fine (once you get the right Java version). PM me and I'll help you get this sorted.

    Bargain bin or normal server?

  • @linuxthefish the company just sucks. So far I would recommend quadix.co -- I am actually able to get them on the phone and they seam really nice. They also have better deals than GVH.
