What's your RunAbove uptime? Would you consider it production ready?

Hello,

After registering 50 days+ of uptime with two parallel instances (FR & CA) and no service disruption, I'm thinking of moving a couple of low traffic blogs to RunAbove.

What's your uptime?
What are you using it for?
What are your two (euro)cents?

Comments

  • I've got a few that have been up 80 days or so, haven't seen any service disruptions. But I don't think you should expect production ready from anything in LE* range, or at least not my idea of it from working at an enterprise. However if it is just small blogs, I don't see why these would be any worse than DigitalOcean or Vultr. I probably would trust OVH more than them anyway, OVH has their issues, but they've been around a long time, and generally fix things.

  • I've experience pretty good uptime on those servers, more than a month uptime and no interrumptions.

  • It's as production ready as DO/Vultr. Runabove's control panel is a bit slow when I switch to expert mode though.

  • From the few people I spoke two they said it worked well, but note they have a habit of just shutting down your account and deleting all your data. Given this situation, DO/Vultr/Wable/AWS seem safer bets.

  • Do not trust anyone and do regular backups to third party provider

Cloud services are often used by hackers (ddos attacks, nmap, email spam, etc)

I read on some site interview with the DigitalOcean owner.
He told that 30% frod instances in DO.

  • I'm running a 2Gb sandbox windows server instance. I just have it running Hitleap viewer, but it has been up since I started it weeks ago. Wonder if it will reboot or be suspended first.

    How much is it monthly?

    Nmap scan is illegal ?
I find nmap tutorial on digitalocean community forum. https://digitalocean.com/community/tutorials/how-to-use-nmap-to-scan-for-open-ports-on-your-vps

    I got a free year, but I think it's $2.50 monthly normally.

  • I ran their lab instance since they launched around 2-3 months ago, Ive had 2 outages - once a config issue they rolled out.. another time (during xmas-new years break).. something else. I don't consider that production ready.

  • My current Runabove instance in BHS (sandbox, large, running Win2012) is currently at 16 days uptime, it was never down since I created it. I am using it as a remote desktop due to my old laptop too slow.

However, previously I had another similar instance running there, but it lost power every few days with Kernel Power events shown in the Windows event log. I eventually destroyed it.

In any case, be sure to backup your important data periodically using the snapshot feature.

  • What type of RunAbove instance are we talking about? Sandbox? Steadfast? 1VM/host? Power 8? Because therein lies your answer: Sandbox and Power 8 are both in the Labs (aka in testing), while Steadfast and 1VM/host are in production.

Isn't it a bit pretentious to call this "production"? They're two "low traffic blogs"...

You could run them on $5/year shared hosting.

  • Are there any downsides to the Cloud Sandbox? Is it less performant, has fewer IPs available or something? It has more had disk than the Steadfast version.

Why can't or shouldn't it be used for a production server, or one intended for long term usage?

  • my logic: why they are asking for money if their instances are not ready for production? labs.online.net is free while in beta.

  • I use it for production server for my website.... http://www.99blogger.com

  • @icry : bhs or roubix ? opens in less than 1 second for me.

Yes, nmap scans are illegal if you are using them to discover ports on hosts that don't know about it (90% of times).

  • @rchurch : I think those sandbox are not committed resources. They will probably use something like openvz and overallocate or may be use low quality kimsufi node type something. They should also be coming up with a lower SLA so in case something goes wrong other steadfast packages will be provided support first.

I use their cloud sandbox and their performance is rock solid...BTW I use their France - Central Europe (SBG-1) Server

  • How much extra is Windows 2012 etc?
