IDEA: Buy 1 VPS Get 1 VPS Free
So I've been thinking about this idea for a good part of the day today. I'm wondering if it would be appealing or not to new and current clients of ours, here's the idea:
Purchase any OpenVZ VPS or KVM VPS and get a free 10GB Backup VPS (same specs as our BU25 VPS but with only 10GB instead of 25GB).
and
Purchase any Backup VPS and get a free O64 VPS (64MB/128MB OpenVZ).
What do you think? Ideally we'll be adding private IPs to our VPSs so internal traffic is free but SolusVM disabled this feature (without announcing the removal in any of the changelogs of course).
Comments
I like this idea, especially with internal IPs
Aww dammit, I though you'd give a free vps which is the same :P
Seperate 10GB backup vps sounds awesome though
That is nice idea
I saw this kind of offer from another provider, but because they're still new, I don't want to try them
cant beat free!
This is a very good idea. I think I would buy one
Yeah, we do have an internal network setup on our network and in SolusVM but I haven't played around with the iptables enough to make traffic always go over the internal IPs, right now all traffic seems to go over the public IP from the source then over the internal IP on the destination. Also, the free VPSs will come with a public IPv4 and not limited to internal usage in case I wasn't clear on that.
@KuJoe, as one of your current clients, I like it.
Have my current devbox rsync to the backup box :P
Would it be just the same 10GB Backup VPS free even with the 256mb or 512mb plan? Or would it be higher?
Also, I suggest if you wish to prevent servers from getting cluttered up having the client/user submit a ticket in order to get a free one activated. No use activating something when no-one's going to use it.
Also, would you be able to give extra space instead of a public ipv4? I'd be happy with just a private ip and it'd be more secure.
This is great idea @KuJoe even private IP is ok for me. Just another box to rsync my backup. But make the free backup vps on another node, right?
It would be 10GB for all plans. I was working out some "upgrade path" ideas for people who wanted to upgrade from the 10GB free Backup VPS to one of our paid plans at a discounted rate, the only catch would be that the discounted rate would only apply if the client maintained at least 1 OpenVZ VPS or KVM VPS.
This would be the plan. It would require a support ticket to get the order link and the order will be manually activated to prevent sharing of the link.
We could exchange the public IPv4 for another 5GB of storage. I'm fairly certain Debian repos support IPv6 now right? Otherwise I'm not sure how you'd install stuff aside from downloading it on one VPS and moving it over manually (although our Debian template for our backup servers come with rsync and vsftp installed and configured by default).
All Backup VPSs are on our goldXX nodes (right now we only have gold01 but we're in the process of planning for a second node as we only have 2TB of space left to provision).
How about our existing accounts? Can we avail?
All promotions are only for new orders, sorry.
Tartar sauce.
Are these one for every new order? Or limited to one per new order per customer?
IPv6 would be fine for Debian updates, and as it'd be for storage by rsync only. Public internet access wouldn't be required to install things, we could always rsync stuff over from the main server anyway to install.
Yes, they do. You could also use NAT with the internal IPs, so people can do output connections.
@AsadHaider: its for new orders. That's why KuJoe said its an idea for a promotion. Although he did also tell me that you can cancel your VPS and reorder and get that bling.
@HalfEatenPie Yeah, I mean is it limited to one per customer?
Can I order two vps' from SD and I'll get two storage boxes? or is it limited to one per customer?
We haven't worked out the specifics (in fact, I haven't even discussed this with my partner aside from sending him the link to this thread) so I don't know if we would limit it to one use per client. I do know that there will be a promotional code also so it will be limited to a certain number of uses.
At this time I have a few other promotion ideas I'll be running by my partner.
@KuJoe: a free coupon for the internet with each VPS purchase?
@HalfEatenPie Coupon for a free pie?
How about free 1 VPS backup service for each spending of some amount. E.g. $30.
Sounds cool
That's not a bad idea. I've been wanting to setup a customer rewards system for a while.
I was actually looking for something dragon related online for contests. This idea came to me today while watching this with my daughter. LoL.
@KuJoe Good film? People keep telling me to watch it.. I don't know..
I was on my netbook so I wasn't really paying attention.
Try Sintel. Its an open source like movie.
