Does seem an odd turnaround all of a sudden, probably represents much of their hosted content

  • He was probably told by his religious father that he will go blind and his servers will catch fire

  • I'm actually happy to see that GVH did something good/right. Well, it is in my books anyway.

  • The only positive thing of GVH is their SLA.

  • @akz I dont like porn being hosted on my hardware.

  • Our decision to prohibit pornography on our servers has nothing to do with the amount of resources that we have available. Most of our customers that host porn with servers from us have dedicated servers.

It is OUR business to run and we choose to implement our moral beliefs into what we do and do not allow to be hosted here.

I personally have also seen people ruined by pornography and supported the prohibition.

To address issues with customers presently hosting adult content, we have partnered with our upstream HVH to offer free transfers of virtual servers and dedicated servers hosting pornography over to them. Customers who are hosting pornography on any GVH service in the US may submit a ticket HVH's sales department for a transfer. This needs to be done by Nov 16.

This is extremely inappropriate and a poor way to conduct business, IMO. Leave your (religious?) beliefs out of your business. Also seems insulting to your clients who don't agree with this.

I am going to fully agree with this statement. Despite of how I feel about GVH's practices in general, this made me want to shake hands with everyone who contributed to making this decision. #YOLO

The original post was dated 13 November. Is that when the GreenValleyHost letter arrived? In other words, were customers given a mere three days notice?

For a company that is taking a moral stance regarding what can be hosted, it does not seem fair and reasonable to give their customers only three days notice to move out.

(It is true that after the fact, Jacob_GVH said that customers have an opportunity to move their VPSs to HVH, but he did not state the terms of the move. Do the plans remain unchanged? What about customers with prepaid plans? Besides, three days is still insufficient notice. Some customers may be busy or on vacation. What if the move breaks something that runs on the affected VPSs? That's not much time for verification and test, is it?)

An apology for abrupt notice and inconvenience does not make up for the harm that GreenValleyHost is doing to its customers that are affected. In my opinion, 60 days notice would be more appropriate. Yes, 60 days is arbitrary, but it feels to me like a sufficient amount of time for customers to find an alternate provider if they choose. For me, 60 days passes the test of reasonableness.

Stated more bluntly, GreenValleyHost cannot stand up and claim the moral high ground regarding pornography, when they screw their unsuspecting customers, whose businesses and livelihoods may depend on their GreenValleyHost VPSs.

If you know that someone is bad person who is doing something wrong, you cannot claim moral superiority if you ambush them in a dark corner and attack them with a baseball bat when they are helpless.

    Disclaimer:

I want it clearly understood that I have not made any statement about pornography. My only statements are about how GreenValleyHost treats their customers when GreenValleyHost decides to make an Acceptable Use Policy change, which they claim is based on moral grounds.

It would be nice to see a response from Jacob_GVH to my considered (and concerned) post above before this thread drops out of visibility altogether.

Usually threads appear at the top of the list when there are new posts. For some reason this one did not bump up to the top after my entry. Why?

One more comment: Rereading my post, I realize that I called the company "GreenValleyHost". I had originally used the acronym "GVH", but edited it with cut and paste to spell out their full name. I believe that autocorrect fixed a typo in the original to "valley" instead of "value".

The correct name of the company is "GreenValueHost". Please accept my apology for getting the name wrong.

I still feel strongly that they did their customers a great disservice by cutting them off with such short notice.

Oh, OK, so just because someone posted the notice on a forum on a certain date means that that date is when it was sent out? Think logically and stop being stupid or get checked out immediately.

Clients were given a week notice.

Hello @GVH_Jacob. Thank you for taking the time to respond to my posts.

If you read carefully, you will note that the first thing I asked in my original post was to learn whether customers had been given three days notice or more. You are correct that after reading everyone else's posts and finding nothing to contradict it, I assumed that three days notice had been given. You pointed out that I was incorrect, GreenValueHost actually gave seven days.

Seven days is better than three days, but it is not sufficient notice when you are cutting off a key aspect of someone's business. As I said before, I believe that 60 days notice would have been more fair, considerate, and appropriate. Even if you had given customers 30 days, I would not have objected publicly in these forums.

Telling me to "think logically", "stop being stupid" and "get checked out immediately" are juvenile statements that do not deserve comment. Still, they do not sit well in the light of GreenValueHost's moral stance on pornography.
