What would you guys recommend for a default chunk size on a RAID10 array?

    64k

  • It does depend what you are doing; however I'd say 2048 or 1024 as default

Just ensure that the file system is formatted appropriately for whatever chunk size you use (stride/stripe)

I personally think 64-256k works best. It all depends on your purpose. If you are storing large files, a larger chunk size works best.

Check the URL above, it's also important to set your filesystem parameters correctly.

  • Also set an appropriate read-ahead

    Thoughts about 512k?

Are you trying to raid ssd disks? Which controller?
With one of our old san (6130 storagetek ) i tried with 512k one time but it worked well only when storage was used with big files i.e. for the VOD streaming servers. In other cases smaller chunks worked better...

  • Didnt SSD's have some thing about whatever counts for a sector size being matched being the best?
