Looking for help debugging OpenVPN Dropouts

I currently have a OpenVPN server running at Ramnode NYC, and a VPN client at Cloudshards Los Angeles.

For some reason, the VPN connection drops every minute or so (Pings will be lost) and then comes back up.

So far, I have tested both tun/tap with UDP. I put a OpenVPN Client on my xvmlabs vps (Los Angeles) with the same config used on the CloudShards server, and the OpenVPN connection is stable.

From what I can see, it seems to be a network error, yet no increased pings or packetloss show up on a MTR to the VPN Server from Cloudshards.

Any idea where I should begin?

  • Is the route changing? Or something local on that vm running?

  • Nope, the route doesnt change, it goes through the following (with the 8th hop being the ramnode server removed)
