Ubuntu shift root mount point

edited August 2014 in Help

I just got my Kimfushi and do a default OS install. But I find out that they mount most hard drive space to /home. Is there anyway that I shift those 1.7 T space to "/" without reinstall?

Filesystem Size Used Avail Use% Mounted on

/dev/root 20G 1.5G 17G 9% /

devtmpfs 2.0G 4.0K 2.0G 1% /dev

none 4.0K 0 4.0K 0% /sys/fs/cgroup

none 394M 492K 393M 1% /run

none 5.0M 0 5.0M 0% /run/lock

none 2.0G 0 2.0G 0% /run/shm

none 100M 0 100M 0% /run/user

/dev/sda3 1.8T 68M 1.7T 1% /home

  • You will need a OS reload.

But on second thought you can delete /dev/sda3 (if it is the last partition on sda) and recreate 2 partitions, one for /home, and the other for your usage anywhere in / [Only do this if you know, and at your own risk].

To extend / without loosing data is risky. Safe bet: Reload your OS with the desired layout.
