Hi,

I see SYS-IP-4 from SYS. If i config RAID 0 (with MegaRAID with 512 MB cache + battery to enable and increase I/O performance) for server, data can be lost or damaged hard drive quickly? I want install SolusVM or Virtualizor for VPS Provider. Total size hdd is 4TB RAID 0.

Hope anybody to explain. Thank you.

P/s: Sorry for my poor english.

If either of the hard drives fail, then the data will be lost.

Raid 0 and vps provider should not be in the same sentence

Sure, it has cache, and RAID 0 will stripe your data across disks... but you're still going to lose your data if one hard drive fails and you're on RAID 0.

What you want is RAID1 or, for VPS (since you'll have concurrent I/O operations in different regions), better yet RAID 10 (requires four disks, so that you get both striping and mirroring).

    SoftRaid-1 SATA3 i get I/O about 150MB/s. Which RAID1 or RAID5 (inc. MegaRAID ...) how much I/O equivalent i can will get?

I am confused between two plan (OVH):

    • SP-64 (3x2TB SATA3 MegaRAID LSI 9271-4i CacheVault 1 GB)
    • BD-8T (4x2TB SATA3 SoftRAID 10)

    What plan will best performance?

I will recommend RAID 1 with 3 x 2 TB using 3rd drive as hot spare (RAID 5 not a good option with a raid array of 3 spinning drives only but it would be fine if you use RAID 5 with 3 x SSDs).

Why build an VPS provider if you dont even know the RAID levels

Apart from the fact that there's proven to be almost no interest in another low-end OVH hosting company, SYS is not a good line to do it with, only if you get something special (no, that is not 24/7 support), Just do yourself a favor, don't invest time and money into this, IT WILL FAIL (been there, done that).
