    pay overages if need be

    How many $$$ per outgoing TB?

    incremental backups and restores

    Incremental restore, that's a new concept.

    @albertdb

    Overages are $0.02/GB. Incremental restores as in only restoring from recent changes. Using rsync to restore data could reduce 600GB down to 1GB if only a small portion has changed. Using compression on the transfer reduces it even further. This also would be much faster than running a full restore. We offer large storage so you don't have to use large archives. You can backup what you need and restore what you need, taking full advantage of tools like rsync.

    There are plenty of ways to efficiently use 1TB of outbound bandwidth and we offer plenty of other alternatives to fit other needs.

    The $48/year is a very limited time promotion for the brand opening. You can only switch to it while the promotion is still running. As of right now, the promotion will probably only be available for 2-3 weeks or until we sell a specific number of servers.

    IPv6 is currently not available at Chicago Metro or Phoenix. We are installing a new link later this month to handle IPv6 in Chicago Metro so it should be available in August. At that time we will be allocating /64s on request.

    for asia, the Phoenix is much better than Chicago, Phoenix ping < 200ms, while Chicago > 400ms

    @hotsnow

    400ms seems very high. Mind messaging me a traceroute? There is only 50ms between Phoenix and Chicago, maybe we can adjust the route.

    Unfortunately, it doesn't look like there is much we can do. The problem seems to be with the inbound route which we don't have much control over. Seems there is a large jump once you get to the states. As you don't leave your ISP until you get to Chicago and at that point, you're already pinging 350ms to Internap. It is an unusual route as usually Internap is top notch.

  • Are the 48AYEAR prices just for the first year, or for all time?

    All time. All coupons listed are recurring.

  • I think it is ok for outbound. It makes sense for the rsync the backup.
    One more thing, when rsynching for a very big data (the first time), it might take much time and also consume RAM and CPU (the same when restoring/downloading to other servers). Do you consider this case as resources abused @vdnet ?

    Of course not. You have to get your data on there somehow. That would be standard usage. You can utilize your entire RAM without issue. You can burst CPU for up to 36 hours a month, before CPU is capped to a lower speed, like our other plans. But of course, the CPU and RAM included in the storage servers are much smaller than our other product lines.

    OK, understood.

    I hope the promotion will be still running when the ipv6 has comed.No ipv6 means no use for me.

    Most likely the $48/year will be over by then. Which server were you interested in?
