When I first signed up it was around 2 days for the application to be accepted.

Wait, there's an activation process for LET? I never knew that, and it was instant when I first signed up, but I think that was back when LEA ran it.

It did?!?, but what would stop him from simple looking up a proxy on a residential IP and coming with a different personality.

Was going to make a crack on the speed of posts on LEB in correlation with your activation time, but that's actually doing okay (for now).

    Yes Accepted :) Thanks.

If he looks up a proxy, that means it's an open proxy (and probably on a common port). All Chief has to do is a quick nmap.

Doing "a quick nmap" is on the borderline to the illegal (and considered illegal by many hosters/networks).

And Chief has much more important things to fix anyway, instead of doing nmap.

I thought it was illegal too

Here's a giant block of text about the legalities of port scanning: http://nmap.org/book/legal-issues.html

Uhh... not in the US, and doubtful in Australia. Some portscanning (i.e. choosing a random IP and scanning it) is, perhaps, against TOS. If it was illegal, then why does almost every IRC network have a proxy scanner that does the equivalent of an nmap?

  • i created naruto_man1 a couple months back and have never heard of approval yet. LEA sleeping.

In Austria, the simple Portscan is not illegal. It is only illegal if the user knows that the Portscan can cause damage or disfunction to the host. Well, and this knowledge has to be proven by the state authorities.
