50EUR for quad core with 32GB RAM sounds nice :)

  • Wow, overpriced much?

I have a great deal with Yesup, but those Hetzner specs are tempting. The only thing really holding me back is the pings, I currently see 30ms-40ms to Yesup, and Hetzner is about 130ms-140ms, so I don't really think it's worth it.

I might as well compare it...

    Yesup - Hetzner
$49 vs $53 (+$53 setup) — Setup fees are annoying!
    i3 @ 3.1GHz vs i7 @ 3.4GHz — Hetzner sorta wins because it's 4c/8t instead of 2c/4t, but I don't really need twice the cores/threads, or the small clock speed increase.
16GB RAM vs 16GB RAM — Same either way
1x 500GB vs 2x 3TB — I have no need for lots of storage, but some RAID might be fun.
1TB @ 1gbps vs 10TB @ 100mbps — I must admit, I really like my gigabit line, and I'm using maybe 20% of the bandwidth right now, so I don't really need more bandwidth.

Hmmpff. Not worth the setup fee + the hassle of reinstalling all my software. However, since yesup doesn't offer anything close to the deal I got anymore, Hetzner is certainly a better value, beatable by nobody.

Also, here's a picture of the Hetzner DC I found on the 'net.

Looks like those intensive farming things, they have similar lighting in those intensive farmining thingamajigs, we studied it in English Language as our persuasive writing section.

OVH's German Datacenter is built out of shipping containers.

It's their 'Let's see how far we can get into Germany, but without being in Germany, because we're French' datacentre.

It was also designed by a 2 year old toddler who discovered lego for the first time

not enough money, but the offer is too good..hmm

  • @Liam I was being sarcastic.

  • I think Hetzners datacenter looks pretty decent. Looks to be a warehouse of some sorts.

OVH on the other hand.........oh god that is horrid.

    You got that right.

YesUp is now: $149 for a i3 2100, 16 GB and 5 TB bandwidth...... pure rip.

Well, I only have 1TB bandwidth, so I'd have to pay $36 extra.. It's still worth it though, $85 vs $149 :D.

    @liam said: Ergh Ugly.

Who cares how it looks, as long as it works well and allows them to deliver the prices they do. That said, I think it's actually beautiful because it's lightweight, simple and can be quickly built anywhere. Just one thing, they could've chosen containers to be all the same color (or various colors, but arranged in some clever pattern).

@Daniel said: I call it art.

Selling real dedicated servers for less than other companies sell VPSes (of much worse specs), and building a profitable thriving company on that, is what I can call art.

Living a few kilometers (or a little bit less miles if you prefer) from Strasbourg, I confirm that the city is actually in France, and of course so does the new OVH "containers datacenter". The east side of Strasbourg touches the German border, so it's not so far from Germany.

And you may tell the French that Strasbourg is in Germany, I know some (as in Paris for example) that still believe it ;-). It's however adviced to avoid it with elders that suffered from WWII.

@liam said: Ergh Ugly. It actually reminds me of a French scientific base in the Antarctica, can't remember the name.

    Maybe "Dumont d'Urville" or "Concordia".

OVH's datacenter in Strasbourg is located in the harbor area (so it's appearance was not the first concern I guess, it's cheap and quick to build), and may host up to 10000 servers. A second one is already planned for 2013, should be a tower that time.
