Completly agreed. I've never taken an Aspirin or cold medcine or whatever and i'm still alive lol.
Same with me. I usually drink a few hot teas when I feels sick and that works nice since 30 years.
None of it has to be done for me. I just do it because I've got nothing better to do, which isn't a very good motivation, thus I don't have the attention span for it. School? Plenty of attention. Work? Plenty of attention.
Out of interest.. how are you guys when it comes to sticking to your own set timetables?
Personally, I'm awful and do unneeded stuff instead of working.. always making the excuse of "I'll do more tomorrow". I'm actually so lazy, and appreciate that the younger generation need to buck their ideas up, but we're all the same, it's how our generation is. Would love to be able to break this habit though and be able to stick to something.. seeing as I'm going to have to once I get into a career!
Grow a pair. If you don't work then it won't get done, you won't get paid, and you'll live under a bridge.
You just need to change your mindframe/attitude.
Aside from agreeing with overuse of medicines, that post had a high 'get off my lawn' level.
@Adam I'm not even at uni yet, never mind working. You try motivating yourself to write 10000 words plus graphs, charts, excessive logging etc. Of a "project", that was simply a website put together in about 3 hours.
fair enough, if it was paid work or something actually worth doing, but it's not.
Please don't come in here criticising my attitude, when you seem pretty negative yourself.

@liamwithers
We've all been there! Everyone here has been or is in school. Your situation is no different than anyone else here, yet we've all prevailed.
The motivation you're looking for is "If I don't do this, then I fail. If I do poor, I could risk my grade, and maybe my future". If these things don't motivate you, then perhaps you should re-think your future.
In regards to my attitude, yes I'm being negative. You came here seeking advice on how to find motivation. Many answered with suggestions including myself, yet you came back talking about how lazy you are while partially placing blame on your generation.
I'm being harsh with you as I believe the only way to stop laziness is a good ol' kick up the ass!
No one said it's easy, you alone have to want it, and work for it.
Don't think you have the mental strength to motivate yourself, then do the following:
Music + A/C = I'm set.
For me the most important is to do everything as good as possible. Maybe it sounds strange but as for Asatru this is a matter of honour. If you know that you won't be able to do things as they should be done better don't even start. Remember that with your attitude/work/quality of code you present yourself to other people.
@Adam
Apologies if I came across as being a bit of an idiot, but my college course really isn't demanding. I've put in minimal work, and I'm coming out with top grades, and going to a top ten university in the UK; it's a 100% coursework course, and is hardly difficult so long as you have a decent amount of knowledge on the subject (software development in my case).
Thanks for those suggestions. Already one step ahead of ya on the using a netbook instead of a PC thing, but that's due to me being miiiiles away from home (where my desktop is) at the moment; which also means I can't have my parents check that I'm progressing, and actually really doesn't help that I live in a house with 12 close friends
.. we all get distracted and go out socialising
.
So long as I have my ideas bucked up and I'm motivating myself to work by the time uni arrives (September), I am confident I'll be absolutely fine. However, if I don't work hard and motivate myself at uni, then I'll be feeling the effects when finding a job become much harder than I would have liked
Thanks for the suggestions though guys
, netnanny sounds like something I am in desperate need of :P, damn you Facebook
So.. I've got around 100 iMac's at my disposal 24/7. Triple booting Windows/Mac/Linux. I'm very tempted to go out at weekends, get far too drunk, and come back and code. Thoughts?
Biggest tip I've found is to start your day as a producer & not a consumer.
What I mean by that is that if I wake up first thing in the morning & check email, browse forums etc it'll put me in that mindset for the rest of the day. If I get up & get straight into some decent work/output, the day runs a lot smoother & I feel more productive
Does late at night work?
I feel like i get quantity, not really quality when i do late night work. The opposite when doing mid-day work.
For me it's weird.
Daytime = good code, awful (frequently non-existent) commenting
Night time = awful code, amazing commenting
:S
6 am to 9 am, and 11 pm to 2 am. Tea, cigarettes, rock music. Best.
i love working at home
Faith and my relationship with God. I try to find good songs and listen to them while working on my forum software/coding custom WHMCS plugins/etc. I played baseball for college (Which I should be going to school for, but dropped out currently to support my forum software development niche I am doing).
I think it really depends on the kind of music you listen to, there is so much garbage these days, it's just insane. Sometimes the right music will help you out exponentially.
Still single here, so no girl problems yet >_<
