Rackspace DNS
Hello,
Been using Rackspace DNS for about a week or two now. On their website they advertise it as being anycast.
Support have told me that connections for DNS requests should be routed to the closest available DC, but they don't always appear to be.

Is what they're saying correct?
Comments
They are anycast.
dns1 routes only to the US and dns2 only to the UK, but it's fine.
@1e10 if you really what anycast dns, try cloudflare
my kimsufi server

I'm not really keen on CloudFlare. I find their websites goes offline for minutes at a time several times a day for me and it's irritating whilst trying to edit a DNS record.
What I want to know from this thread is whether what Rackspace is offering true anycast DNS?
There is no true or false anycast. It's just about on what scale a provider is operating such. Just taken from the examples, Cloudflare has a much larger network and is better engineered than the one from Rackspace. It's quite complex to get Anycast "perfectly done".
@Razza CloudFlare isn't so great and routes are exactly the same for their primary and secondary nameservers.
@1e10 I already told you. They are doing anycast.
@Amfy of course there is true anycast. And "better engineered" is just your personal opinion. Uptime and reliability is actually much better with Rackspace. CloudFlare is the DigitalOcean of DNS providers.
Is rackspace DNS really free?
Yes - for clients only.
Yes but you have to register an account. You never actually need to order anything thouh.
Service is clearly advertised for clients with active services. Don't be surprised if one day your account gets terminated and your DNS gets down.
Well I do have services with them so.
