ATHKATHK Member

My SSL cert is about to expire, can you guys recommend the cheapest SSL providers? Currently looking at ipxcore's $15 a year..

We're using one of IPXCore's wildcard AlphaSSL's, and can't complain.

It is amazing how quickly a thread can turn off-topic ;)

Back on topic, the cheapest ones will be www.startssl.com

Why would anyone ever pay for one when you can get one for free?

These are free, the compatibility isn't all that great. even the 2 year "Unlimited" is still $60..

I just want one cert no wildcard.

The only downside i see about using a free ssl such as startcom startssl is that they charge to reissue the cert, were most paid allows you to reissue for free

I am not quite sure what you mean.

You asked for the cheapest. As for compatibility I couldnt tell.

I didn't mean to come off rude, sorry about that. Thanks for the suggestion anyway :D

Jack said: You looked into the providers in Singlehop offering free SSLs with VPS's?

I have seen the posts, but I already have way to many VPS's at the moment, and I heard you can't use the SSL outside of Singlehop.

  • ATHKATHK Member

Jack said: Bull... I have a number of certs (3) issued by "Singlehop" and used outside the network.

This is for production by the way, probably should've mentioned that.. I couldn't risk the chance of the SSL being removed because it's outside of their network.. if that's true of course.

I think IPXCORE is so far my only choice or STARTSSL anyway thanks for the suggestions everyone and for the trolling/off topic posts I guess..

Yes, I wonder why thats always necessary .....

I meant if there wasn't a downside to using a free SSL cert from startssl, why would anyone ever pay for one?

    @Razza's answer seems legit though.

Get a domain from Namecheap and you can get a cheap SSL too.

The CA ise preinstalled on all modern consumer OS. Compatibility should not be an issue.

    Single name certificate?

Probably, though that's exactly what I want and exactly what ipxcore provides for the same price.

  • a bit offtopic, but @Nekki, are you part of Nekkid on the block? That famous band?

Works great, going to buy another for a project at some point this week. Plus it's DrServer so it's even better?

Might just do that, the prices are extremely low! And their website looks like a chalkboard which is pretty awesome.

There are many VPS companies here offering free AlphaSSL Certificates with the purchase of a VPS that will cost you $2-$3

  • namecheap $1.99

  • ATHKATHK Member

    sz1hosting said: namecheap $1.99

I don't see that price anywhere, only $9 a year, if you're going to mention that I need a domain name to get that discount ... that'll be pointless as I'm asking for a SSL cert, so you can safely just assume I already have a domain.. and you'd be correct!

    https://www.namecheap.com/security/ssl-certificates/domain-validation.aspx

drserver is cheaper for the exact same certificate. $4.70 a year.

  • BellaBella Member

Can someone explain what's the difference between different SSL Certificate Companies? I"m not talking about SSL vs EV SSL.

I'm talking about the difference between a PositiveSSL Cert and AlphaSSL Cert or other SSL Certs.

Their all the same thing and provide the same level of protection. So what's the big deal?
