Best offshore locations for a VPS?

I wonder how 'private' BlueVM can be (or offshore from the US), even if the server is based in switzerland, as the company is in the US... Might be better to go with privatelayer directly or edis...

    Good luck

  • Sweden has been bullied into being fairly DMCA compliant over the years. Sweden slaps some very heavy fines from time to time on individuals. Best to avoid it if you are into this type of thing. ISP's are generally amazing in Sweden (think: Bahnhof), but the government does as much spying as the US does. I got a letter a month ago from Bahnhof identifing what networks were being logged by the government. I also got one not too long ago saying that they were deleting any logs that they had been forced to keep up to that point due to the new EU law being passed. Sweden has a couple of providers that will ignore DCMA for extra $$.. cough prq.. but they get raided from time to time.

I would recommend Lithuania for this type of thing. Have personal friends in those countries that use even their college's connection to seed. Never tried servers in those countries myself, so take my words with a grain of salt.

Offshore shared hosting should be cheaper than a VPS, I would assume.

  • Ukraine, Russia "dark" hosts are better, but the general public can't really reach them I think. Whenever I look up a RU/UA host of a wrz site, either no website matching company name, empty site, site with no prices or sales site with Russian only. The lattermost is common. You need some Russian language knowledge to navigate in this world I think. Some CZ/UA/RU/HU sometimes FI companies interconnected. Russian LLC, CZ-hosted hardware or Ukrainian LLC, Hungarian-based DC many combinations are possible. And many directly hosted in UA and RU.

If you're not over the top, OVH might suffice.

nook One more country that comes to mind is Czech Republic.

Haha thank you, I am actually from Czech Republic, I know that there are actually mainly raids on warez forums from time to time and uploaders to file sharing sites, torrent trackers however go untouched.

  • Switzerland may actually be a great option for you (I am from there). But many providers charge $30 for a VPS with 1GB RAM, since almost everything is more expensive there. You may also give CloudSigma a try.

  • Iceland can be a good choice I think...

Aha, já taky. Stává se :D

  • You said no NL but Ecatel is one of the best for non-DMCA compliant hosting.

He knows that, he said except for the Obvious one.

Iceland have cracked down on copyrighted material being hosted there apparently...

  • DMCA "free":

    https://www.balticservers.com/ - Lithuania.

    http://www.ecatel.info/ - Netherlands.

    http://www.cyberbunker.com/ - Netherlands.

  • Damn, now that's expensive!

  • Netherlands.

    CyberBunker/Ecatel

  • The Netherlands isn't exactly a safe haven for questionable content anymore. If you're in the US maybe but like France it's hardly the be all and end all of hosting dodgy websites anymore.

Cyberbunker is though, they allow you to host anything except childporn, and they guarantee to keep you online.

For now. They're in a bunker but that's about it (and I remember reading about some problems with renewing the lease - can't find them on google now though, so maybe it was lies). They're not going to physically fight the authorities over your data and it's not like the owner is unknown or untouchable.

If I had to try and host something without fear, I'd probably try and track down the Russian Business Network which has ties to the Russian elite.

This is easier than you might think. You can buy left-over RBN hosted VPS/Dedis even from a few LEB providers.

It has no ties to anyone anymore either, at least not in it's original form, flyman disappeared (50:50 that he is dead somewhere in the Ural or lives in KZ, a lot of money disappeared also)

If s**t is about to get real you want your box in Ukrtelecom behind stop-ddos (rather easy to buy), at Azertelecom (... more or less buyable) or at Belpak (requires some serious contacts).

  • I guess I've got some reading to do eh William? :P I try to keep on the good side of the law now though, at least commercially, seeing as I'm old enough to be held accountable now...!

    When did the RBN fall?

  • Around 2008 when he got lost (after alleged high ordered Russian FSB involvement to finally investigate some stuff they did), parts exist until today.

Some companies are now more or less legit like this LEB providers (or their upstreams), others moved on with already established Asian crime ops (Vincent Chan, eh) or formed new ones (Ibragimov), many just went out of business or faded slowly into the established Chinese and Ukrainian crime hosting channels (which are/were also mainly controlled by ex-RBN 'members')
