server load on openvz? node or VPS?

is the server load you get from the uptime command for your VPS or the node?

is anything <1 fine for either?

  • It depends on the CPU. <1 should be perfectly fine for a VPS node.

    Wow, hosts must love you.

All you need to worry about is anything >1. That's when hosts start terminating you for abusing resources.

It depends how many cores. If the vps has 4 cores and load is 4, many hosts will suspend you but also some allow it, going over 1:1 ratios means trouble, usually, especially in OVZ.

  • thanks guys, the node has a quad core e3

the reason I'm wondering is because it was at 0.0 before and after running a gameserver it's gone close to 1.00 so does this mean I'll be using a full core (or 1/4 of the CPU)?

It depends. If your server is multi-threaded (most are) the load is spread, if single-threaded, then it uses a core only. In the latter situation, even if you have 4 cores, you may still lock one and the host will not be happy.
