Exactly my point. Linode always was better than DO but the reason people didn't join Linode was because of the pricing.

Now that the pricing is equal, Linode should be much better than DO.

  • I think Linode just stuck up the middle finger to anyone who wants to pay less than $20/month.

    Thanks, Linode! -.-

Hasn't it always been like that?

Relatively sure they had a $10/month option? I may be wrong, it's been years since I've looked at Linode!

WTF are you talking about. Their lowest plan always was $20. Just that it formerly had 512MB of RAM, then 1024, now 2GB. Storage was increasing similarly from 20 to 40 to 48 GB.

It went even lower than that RAM wise

    256MB $19.95 https://web.archive.org/web/20070701121358/http://www.linode.com/

    64MB https://web.archive.org/web/20050414082216/http://www.linode.com/

    same 64MB back in 2003 https://web.archive.org/web/20030719012329/http://linode.com/

I wouldn't be surprised if they offered 128MB/$20 at some point too but Linode have always started at $19.95/$20, at least on their main website. Maybe in private.

    The first Linode plan - for $20/month - had 64MB RAM :)

I don't understand what the ongoing debate is all about. Linode offers a service. If you want to buy it, buy it. If you don't, don't. You have a choice. Isn't that great?

Calm down. What's your problem? Can people not be wrong? Sheesh.

Yes they can, but not while being so annoying and arrogant about it:

Sorry, before posting such a tirade you should've double-checked your facts, OR you could have been more humble and as you say, "calmed down" yourself in the first place. Also "WTF are you talking about" is practically the mildest reaction you could've expected to such behavior, so not seeing what are you even complaining about.

Personally I like that Linode starts at $20. First it's worth it and second it deters a whole lot of people who I suspect I would rather not share a server with to be honest.

Yep, not only the server, but the network. If you need quality, you pay extra, if you do not need it, you cannot care less for the neighbours, but the price must be really low. There are a few hosts which offer good quality at low prices, though, however, they do not have the cash Linode has, so they are harder to find if you do not know where to look. LEB/LET, live long and prosper :)

Of course and even if you have only been around LEB/LET for a short while you will get to know quite quickly who are the names to trust, use caution with or avoid.
