Host: http://vultr.com

Location: Netherlands (Primary Location)

Plan: Base - Size 1

Price: $5/pm or $0.007/hr

Specs: 1 CPU Core, 512MB RAM, 20GB SSD, 1000GB Bandwidth

Use: The VM is used to host my blog.

Stability: The VPS has had 100% uptime since deployed and performance has been steady.

Network: The VM is connected at 1Gbps and I can certainly see that, I've got decent ping from the UK to the VM (12ms) and downloads are fast.

Speedtest.net - Tested on 3587 which is owned by LeaseWeb in NL.

wget freevps.us/downloads/bench.sh -O - -o /dev/null|bash

  • Download speed from CacheFly: 83.8MB/s
  • Download speed from Coloat, Atlanta GA: 2.54MB/s
  • Download speed from Softlayer, Dallas, TX: 1.90MB/s
  • Download speed from Linode, Tokyo, JP: 932KB/s
  • Download speed from i3d.net, Rotterdam, NL: 17.7MB/s
  • Download speed from Leaseweb, Haarlem, NL: 83.5MB/s
  • Download speed from Softlayer, Singapore: 908KB/s
  • Download speed from Softlayer, Seattle, WA: 1.75MB/s
  • Download speed from Softlayer, San Jose, CA: 1.57MB/s
  • Download speed from Softlayer, Washington, DC: 2.90MB/s

Disk: The disk speed was decent, with a dd test recording 470MB/s

dd if=/dev/zero of=test bs=64k count=16k conv=fdatasync

  • 16384+0 records in
  • 16384+0 records out
  • 1073741824 bytes (1.1 GB) copied, 2.2844 s, 470 MB/s

Overall: The VM has been running smoothly and the performance is great.

Are they going to kill DO?

I don't think so, they are proving a good service much like Digital Ocean and both are around the same pricing. Vultr is going to become successful from their many locations providing they actually activate them.

I'll be adding a review of their New York / New Jersey Location in a few days.

Getting similar IO speeds on their chicago servers (440 MB/s)

    Edit: just noticed something odd,

    image

I don't even have any services running on my vps and it's being using Megabytes of BW??

  • Getting around 315 MB/s in France and 470 MB/s in Netherlands.

Still I think it's way to soon to write a review of them, after only around a week. Waiting at least three more weeks to see how things are going.
