How to deploy a self-hosted RustDesk server on Linux VPS (+ Video Tutorial)
Hi everyone,
I've noticed a lot of people recently looking for a solid, self-hosted replacement for TeamViewer and AnyDesk after their recent policy and pricing changes.
One of the most requested and effective open-source solutions right now is RustDesk. Hosting your own relay and signal servers gives you complete control over your remote access infrastructure, with zero session limits and maximum privacy.
Here is a high-level breakdown of setting it up on a clean Linux VPS:
- Prerequisites: A basic Linux VPS (Ubuntu/Debian) with Docker and Docker Compose installed.
- Network/Firewall: Open TCP ports 21115-21117, UDP 21116, and TCP 21118-21119 for relaying.
- Containers: Deploy hbbs (signal) and hbbr (relay) using Docker Compose.
- Client Setup: Configure your RustDesk client with your VPS IP/domain and insert the generated public key.
For those who want step-by-step instructions, complete Docker configurations, and firewall commands:

Hi
The the tutorial was created 2 weeks ago, yet you seem to recommend downloading a release that's almost 2 years old by now and contains multiple documented security flaws including CVE-2026-30793 (URI scheme execution and priviledge escalation) and CVE-2026-100388/CVE-2026-100417 (file transfer and session authorization bypasses).
Yes, you're right. I'll change everything to the current version, thanks for pointing it out
Instructions unclear now I am touching @oloke on desk
Thanks!
I tried it out last month but found it was too restrictive, so opted for meshcentral
