How can I get a refund for Google's $50 verification charge?

Google Cloud charged me $50 for payment verification when I signed up. I've already closed my active billing account, but I haven't received the refund yet.
Will the $50 be refunded automatically after closing the billing account, or do I need to contact Google Support to request a refund?
Has anyone here successfully received a refund for this $50 verification charge? How long did it take?

why would you close your billing account before receiving the verification payment refund? you verified for nothing?
you can't open / ask for support in google cloud console (https://console.cloud.google.com/support/chat) if you don't have active billing account and an active project
