Which VPS providers should one keep an eye on for Black Friday?

I’m a new Chinese user here on LET. I’m curious—which providers are you all hoping to see Black Friday deals from?

Depends on what you're after. I'm definitely on the lookout for cheap dedis—hoping OVH comes through with some good deals.
By the way, any other hosts likely to run similar promos? I only know Nuyek might have something coming up.

However, GreenCloud imposes CPU limits on its servers; if usage reaches 100% for 5 minutes, the system will shut down your instance—or even delete it entirely.

I don't recommend RackNerd. About two years ago, I had a terrible experience with their shared web hosting service. They advertised 50 GB of storage, so I uploaded a 20 GB MP4 video containing 10 hours of important internal processes from my company.

Around 15 hours later, my account was suspended. Their initial excuse was that I was storing copyrighted material without authorization, which was completely false. The video was simply a backup of important business processes belonging to my organization.

Once they realized their accusation was unfounded, they lifted the suspension but insisted that I purchase a VPS just to store that file, despite advertising 50 GB of storage with their shared hosting plan.

At that point, I immediately decided to leave RackNerd, but I never told them about my decision. I just wanted to walk away quietly because I didn't want their staff snooping through my organization's private data any further.

I'm currently using GreenCloud and GeorgeDataCenter, and I'm very happy with both providers. However, this Black Friday, I'm looking to try out some new providers for backup servers. Servarica, Netcup, and AlphaVPS are currently at the top of my list.

  • Onidel would be nice I may try them again,

Yeah every VPS provider has a fair-share policy, and I've pinned past 5 minutes, GC didn't take action provided you release those cores back.

What are you looking for? Our niche market is storage. Big storage :) (but not VPS though)

They say the system will shut down if the total duration exceeds 5 minutes—and this doesn't have to be a continuous stretch. So, even if you release the core within that 5-minute window, you’ll still face a penalty if your cumulative time over a 24-hour period exceeds 5 minutes. I’m not sure if this is actually true, though.

KVM VPS CPU cores are shared (except our VDS plans). Consistent usage of one full core or more that impacts other clients may require usage reduction. Disruptive load may result in reboot, shutdown, or suspension. Average usage should not exceed 30%, with bursts to 100% allowed for 10 minutes every 24 hours.

Every other VPS provider has similar policy which is close.

Hi @carlos001 -- Thank You for sharing your feedback. I do want to provide some clarification here, particularly regarding video content on shared hosting.

Restrictions on unrelated backups and video streaming are very common within shared hosting environments in the industry, and you'll find this to be quite the norm, be it with RackNerd or elsewhere. By the way, most of the other providers you've mentioned in your post focus on VPS hosting (not shared hosting), which is likely why your experience felt different there. Those same restrictions don't apply to our VPS services either, and backup storage and video streaming are allowed on our VPS product line.

Our Terms of Service specifically state:

Shared and Reseller Hosting Customers are expected to reasonably utilize their hosting space in a manner that is needed to host their public facing website(s) and its core website functionality only.

    It also states:

Additionally, streaming video content is prohibited on shared/reseller hosting environments. If you are looking to store backups, set up a cloud storage locker service, host video content to stream, etc - please consider doing this on a VPS instead. These types of activities are allowed on our VPS and Dedicated Server product lines, so long that it is legal content and abides by the rest of our policies.

Legal video storage and streaming are allowed on our VPS and dedicated server product lines, which is why we recommend those services for this type of use.

Regarding your privacy concerns, we don't snoop through customers' files and have no interest in doing so. On shared hosting, these checks are handled by automated scripts on our shared hosting platform, and flagging a video file does not require our staff to watch it.

If you can share the original ticket number via DM, I'd be happy to review the correspondence, including the copyright concern you mentioned, though I realized this was more than 2 years ago (and we've since heavily improved our internal processes/procedures, and also hired on a lot more talent in the past 2 years as well).

As for VPS services -- our VPS services are unmanaged KVM instances. You control the operating system and software within your VPS, and we don't perform these shared hosting file checks inside customers' VPS instances.

By the way, quite a bit has changed with our shared/reseller hosting product line since you last used us. We've continued investing in this product line, including the introduction of our next-generation platform powered by Ryzen, NVMe, and CloudLinux 9. You can read more about that here.

As for our VPS product line, we've innovated there as well, including the recent launch of RackNerd ctrl, which has been very well appreciated and received by the community and our customers: https://lowendtalk.com/discussion/221357/racknerd-launches-ctrl-a-proprietary-platform-built-for-ai-vps 👊
