Looking for a Free Streaming VPS (Sponsor / FOSS Program)

Hi everyone,

Update: I forgot to mention the repo link in the initial post.

GitHub: https://github.com/ohyeahmman/redstream

License: AGPL-3.0

I am the developer of RedStream Sovereign, a software made in pure Python, without any dependencies such as FFmpeg, nginx or any pip packages.

What it does is quite simple, it receives a live stream from OBS / Streamlabs (RTMP) and converts it into HLS streams so they can be viewed in VLC, any browser or IPTV player. It is super lightweight, around 70MB of RAM usage.

The reason why I am asking here is because I tried to host it on a shared server but it was a disaster, RAM limit reached quickly, CPU usage was capped and after a few hours of streaming the process would get killed. I really need this to be hosted on a VPS.

What I need (minimum):

2 vCPU

1 GB ram

It needs to be online 24/7 for weeks or months with no interaction, no getting killed or banned

Unlimited bandwidth or high-speed unmetered port is a priority for me, I can't have it capped because I will be needing to stream to many users at once

Open TCP ports (RTMP + HTTP)

Linux (Debian or Ubuntu is preferred)

I am not a company, I am just an individual that can't afford a VPS right now. If anyone is able to help or know someone that could donate resources to a FOSS project, you would be a hero for me. Thank you for your time.

First it was "$7", now it’s "free." Can’t wait for next month's thread: "[REQ] Provider to pay me $5/mo to idle on their node."

@Alyx don't be too harsh, at least they got LLM generated project created 54 minutes ago on github to prove they really need this 2c4g free VDS.

Sooo... what is the plan with the other 3.9GB?

Also love the fact that the entire project is just 30 mins old but we already have 2 threads about getting free servers sponsored for the project.

Also love the explanation of why you need this in the first place.

  • Why's everyone requesting free resources? What are you all thinking? cookies falling from the sky or hosting providers are drowning from unlimited resources right now?

Any chance you can sponsor my website? i need roughly 1.2PB of bandwidth per month sometimes pushes to 1.5PB when it gets busy!

    thanks

    hope to hear back soon

Probably getting free/very cheap access to LLMs and trying to quickly monetize it.

If it only uses 70MB of RAM and is lightweight, why do you need 1GB and 2 vCPUs? 1 vCPU and 512MB should be more than enough.

On the 4GB → 1GB: Fair. I dropped it to 1GB after reading the replies. The 70MB is the app at idle, but streaming isn't just "idle app" — you've got the OS overhead, FLV/HLS buffering, segment files being written and read, multiple concurrent viewers, and rexmux running alongside redcore. I overestimated to avoid getting OOM-killed mid-stream. 1GB is honest. If a provider wants to give 512MB to test first, I'll take it too — moscow is right that 512MB is enough to prove the thing works.

On the repo being "54 minutes old / LLM generated": I built this on Termux over weeks — redcore.py alone is ~1000 lines of RTMP chunk parsing, AMF0, HLS muxing and defense logic. The bugs in it (B-frame cts handling, PCR timing in MPEG-TS, publisher kick-out) are exactly the kind of bugs you only get from actually running a live stream for hours and debugging it. I can drop a live URL right now if anyone wants to open it in VLC instead of reading commits. That's the fastest proof.

On "$7 → free": The $7 thread was me looking for a cheap paid option I could barely afford. This thread is me asking if any FOSS sponsor exists. Different question, same person. If the answer is "no sponsorship here," that's completely fine — I'll keep running on shared hosts and move on.

On "why free resources": I'm not expecting cookies. I'm asking once, in the right section, in case this forum has providers who sponsor open-source. If the honest answer is "no, nobody here does that," I'd rather hear it straight than keep guessing.

On the 1.2PB joke: Noted. I'm asking for 1GB RAM and a small unmetered port, not a datacenter. But to be clear about the goal: a few channels, each with a few hundred concurrent viewers at 720p. That's the load I want to test — not 20 viewers, not petabytes. Hundreds per channel is the real target, and that's what needs a stable process + real bandwidth.

What I actually need right now: 1GB / 1 vCPU / Debian / open TCP ports / ~1TB traffic to start testing. If anyone has a spare LXC or a sponsor slot, great. If not, no hard feelings — I'll keep debugging on what I have.

Thanks to the people who actually clicked the repo and read the code.

    Why do you need it?
What are you streaming 24/7 to your 20 viewers?

Shit... all those nice and tempting offers start to appear now, when we stopped offering a-la-carte hosting. :(

    hmm another one!

Yeah another one. Can we ban these donation-begging bots already?

    Looking for a free dedicated server with dual Ryzen 9950X3D, 1TB DDR5 9000, 4x 7.68TB NVMe /24 Ipv4 allocation on unmetered 10GBps connection.

    Live proof: http://bore.pub:59834/live/HEXA
Just open it in your browser it should play the loop automatically.

What's running on a phone in Termux right now:

    · redcore.py — RTMP ingest + HTTP + HLS serving
    · rexmux.py — FLV → MPEG-TS → m3u8 (passthrough, no transcoding)
    · rexloop.py — fallback loop pushed back as RTMP

No FFmpeg. No transcoding. That's why a phone can run it overnight without overheating.

Temporary demo (bore tunnel). Dies when the phone sleeps or the network changes. If it stops, screenshot and I'll restart.

The point of asking for a VPS is to move this off a phone...

  • Will your server be used to stream pirated content? Better just pay up to @Alyx if so, @Alyx isn't Calibour affiliated with Squid?
