Two FREE 3GB OpenVZ Trial VPSs

Hello everyone,

As part of a quick trial of the HostGuard VPS control panel, I need some willing volunteers to take part in a three or four day trial of a 3GB RAM VPS. You will be able to purchase it afterwards if you want to.

What you will get: 3GB RAM, 4 CPUs and 40GB HDD.

Node Spec: Dual Intel Xeon X5650, 72GB RAM and RAID disk space.

Location: Las Vegas.

Available OSs: Ubuntu 10.04, Ubuntu 13.10, Debian 6 & Debian 7 (request your own if needed)

OpenVZ

You are free to do what you want with your VPS (CPU/IO Stress test, setup webserver, store files), but you must obey U.S. Laws. This means no DoS attacks, no mass email marketing, no piracy-related material and no IRC.

To get a VPS: Name + Email sent via PM to 0xdragon or posted in this thread.

Please let me know in this thread what you think of the service if you get one.

Thanks!

  • Just got one and waiting on the OS to "reinstall" now. I will run a freevps benchmark on it later if someone else hasn't done/posted before I do it.

Alright I am in and was able to run some simple benchmarks:

    Disk I/O

    root@*******:~# dd if=/dev/zero of=test bs=64k count=16k conv=fdatasync ; rm test16384+0 records in
    16384+0 records out
    1073741824 bytes (1.1 GB) copied, 6.62375 s, 162 MB/s

    FreeVPS -
    root@*******:~# wget freevps.us/downloads/bench.sh -O - -o /dev/null|bash
    CPU model : Intel(R) Xeon(R) CPU X5650 @ 2.67GHz
    Number of cores : 4
    CPU frequency : 2667.017 MHz
Total amount of ram : 256 MB
Total amount of swap : 512 MB
    System uptime : 15 min,
    Download speed from CacheFly: 61.4MB/s
Download speed from Coloat, Atlanta GA: 5.09MB/s
Download speed from Softlayer, Dallas, TX: 30.7MB/s
Download speed from Linode, Tokyo, JP: 10.1MB/s
Download speed from i3d.net, Rotterdam, NL: 7.97MB/s
Download speed from Leaseweb, Haarlem, NL: 1.70MB/s
Download speed from Softlayer, Singapore: 7.19MB/s
Download speed from Softlayer, Seattle, WA: 36.2MB/s
Download speed from Softlayer, San Jose, CA: 72.4MB/s
Download speed from Softlayer, Washington, DC: 18.3MB/s
    I/O speed : 177 MB/s

I had to restart the script once due to it getting stuck when trying to the test file from Leaseweb.

  • Wow I would like to mine Primecoin / Protoshares with that one for CPU/IO stress test :) Wonder how many Chains/day that setup would have.

Nope. It's just against the TOS of the DC.

Yes, I saw :) just having issues with the HostGuard control panel (it's very buggy).

  • I want to have one.

  • Yep HostGuard is pretty buggy. One provider (I think it was Virtovo) started a test too, but gave up after like 5 days. I guess HostGuard isn't "mature" enough to be a CP for the real use. Myself I would like to see more providers with the Feathur CP. It's pretty nice designed and easy to use. Well, it's your decision.

I couldn't say for certain that the issues we experienced were not related to our config, we make use of some things that are not typical on a VPS node; however certainly not completely out there. I'd lean on the side of it not being ready for providers to put into production (although it already is by SonicVPS and associated brands).

I've got great hopes for Hostguard as the bits that worked were really good and the development team seem to care about making it successful and give a loose roadmap on when things will be completed as opposed to SolusVM where everything is 'coming soon' (we're in 2014 and SVM IPv6 handling is poor).

I've got issues with disappearing VMs.. Not exactly a good sign. :/

HostGuard trial has been halted for the moment due to huge problems. You'll be re-activated as soon as possible! Thanks.

  • Oh I see then. If you want to wipe the HDD of the server feel free, I don't have anything important that I can't get back on there. I also wanted to point out that the server had 256MB of ram when I was testing it. If I could try everything again with 3GB I think the results should be a tad better. Thanks.

  • I want trial,

  • (I think it's over since he started his HostGuard hosting)

  • i want to have one
i am newer learn to vps

  • (I think it's over. Just a guess.)

  • @Spirit @mpkossen please close. This ended a long time ago.

  • Isn't that fast? :P
