Hello,

I'm in need of a dedicated server that has a ddos protection included. I'll be hosting a gameserver on it (MTA:SA.)

Location: EU / USA

DDoS protection: atleast 2gbit

Clean bandwidth: 500GB minimum

Max budget $80

Pay method: Paypal or iDeal

must be monthly paid.

Hardware specs are not that important i'm mainly looking for a provider that includes protection.

  • 2gbit is going to be hard to find with $55, except for places like chicago, and even then.

It's still worth a shot i guess, you never know. I rather not set up a gameserver on a unprotected dedicated server because someday your server will recieve a ddos attack, thats for sure.

No problem, this still was a very good recommendation!

500 Gbps protection for 80 euros is a really good deal, i keep this in mind.

  • budget increased to $80

Well.. that's exactly what I'm doing.. setting up a game server on an unprotected dedi, because dallas has no ddos protection that is in dallas -_-

    http://fragready.com/dedicated_servers/dedicated-servers.php

Fragready.com offers budget dedicated servers and as addon you can buy 2gbit ddos protection (Chicago only), this will cost you $50 extra.

I'm still open for more alternatives.

  • Check LSN.

Why is DDoS protection required for a gameserver? (genuine question)

Have you considered checking out providers of existing servers?

    Existing servers

    See provider

Search provider name on Google to come up w/ website, if no results, check RIPE database for website or email address to see domain

Gameservers are ddos magnets. There's always someone who gets pissed off and launches a ddos attack from a cheap $7 booter ruining it for all other players.. This are usually people you banned previously or ppl who are bored and feel like testing the server. This will be a problem when your server is growing and public.

  • Completely understand you Mark, gameservers and ddos are a f*cking pain in the ass, cause of that kids who don't have nothing better to do than screw the work of the others...
Mostly of my players are portuguese, and I actually have a good solution around here, which blocks ddos attacks blocking the access from any other country but Portugal, but I'm still looking into a better solution...
I had already made a post about ovh, which was bad because it didn't handle the attacks, and about online.net which has a really bad support, so now I'm trying oneprovider.com, that in true is a reseller of online.net, but I'm hoping that their service is good, and with the oneprovider support I might not get the same issue...
Anyway, I'm getting it on the next days, so I'll let you know if it's worth :)

Oneprovider basic protection wont do anything for large attacks, but with their 30€ upgrade I'm not so sure.

We offer plenty of locations for our DDoS protected range. Just get a dedicated server close by and setup a GRE/IPIP tunnel (or IPSec + L2TP on windows).

$80 including dedicated server might be a challenge but is very possible in the US.

Go get a DDoS Protected IP from RamNode + Dedicated Server from somewhere, setup a GRE tunnel and make sure tyour Dedicated Servers Real IP doesnt go pulic.

  • Seflow, Limestone Networks, Black Lotus.

Then again, only Seflow will be in your budget.

Why would you offer LSN, when they in reality backhaul to BlackLotus? (If I am not mistaken?)

  • I know you are looking for included but x4b.net offers start at $9 / month.

  • edited February 2014

As badpatrick said, if you can get a server in chicago x4b works well

Edit: the prepaid 500gb one is much cheaper than the /gb one

I'm right now trying to decide between using X4B's solution or www.fragready.com

fragready's cheapest dedi starts from $70 you can upgrade at any time to a 2gbit ddos protection as add-on for $50.

Why am I still considering fragready while X4B's ( @splitice ) solution is cheaper?

because budget is not everything, it could backfire and im pretty sure that X4B's protection is shared and not dedicated. Fragready provides dedicated protection.

  • Why not seflow?

If you truly believe that a provider can provide dedicated protection for 50$ per month, you are hugely mistaken ;)

I'd go with X4B at any time. Seflow is also to be considered.

starts from 90 euros and their external ddos protection plans are not worth it, 1gbit is not enough protection that is like the default server network port speed.

Tbh i kind of assumed the 2gbit protection is dedicated mainly because it isnt overkill..

BUT it could be that they invested in lets say a 200gbit protected network setup and dedicate 2gbit of that to each customer that pays the extra $50?

if what you say is true then x4b might be a better option.

  • AlexBarakovAlexBarakov Patron Provider, Veteran

    Let's say it is dedicated.
200gbit network, with 2 gbps dedicated protection, ends up at 100 protected users. Each of those users, paying 50$ per month, would end up at 5000$ per month. 200gbps would end up at 204 800mbps. So, they would be paying 0.024$ per mbps of BW. And that wouldn't include any hardware costs and etc. I find it impossible.

They are offering 3 to 10 Gbps DDOS protection with those servers, not 1

  • @stellaev protects her tf2 servers with x4b iirc. I could be wrong

You must have misread what i wrote..

i was making clear that their dedicated servers that included ddos protection are over 90 euros (exceeding budget) and that their external protection http://www.seflow.net/dedicati/ddos.php is not worth it.. 1gbit is 15 euros but that is not enough protection! i atleast need 2gbit dedicated protection.

I know that my english isn't that good but atleast try to understand it before replying, ty.

In short, I wanted to suggest that 2 Gbps is nothing as average DDOS size is 3 Gbps, so if you need any DDOS protection you should go for bit more than 2 Gbps.

wrong. the average size is usually around 1.5gb/s. but that does not matter.. i just want a provider that sells budget dedi's and has a affordable DDoS protection option as add-on whenever its needed, if the attacks get stronger i always could throw in more money. I do not expect this to be needed yet because i still have to build the server itself, heat will increase when the server gets populair and higher in the serverlist.

There is one already - OVH.
